HASH(0x9e46d18c) out of 5 stars electric disonance 9 Oct. 2005
By Warren W. Nelson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
this esoteric instrumental(no vocals) krautrock gem strains my descriptive abilities, but what a fantastic and unique sound! with ethnic and traditional percussion, I suppose some of their distiguishing characteristics would be the development of rhythmic tempos from a sort of chamber style pulse to driving propulsion, modelled on an eastern styled raga; with a variety of eastern instruments and motifs ranging from european folk to sitar jams to very krautrock freakout style passages to a burgeoning jazz fusion style. there is a lot of what today would be called world music (released in 1973) but the styles are so integrated and complex that the results sound quite avant garde and freaky in true krautrock spirit! there is some quite virtuous and unorthodox musicianship throughout the recording that are quite challenging melodically(kind of like what b*tches brew might sound like if played backwards) with fine guitar passages and a trace of synthesizer, but with a consistant melodic undercurrent. very rewarding and worth your time and patience.

HASH(0x9e3ca648) out of 5 stars Germans and Martians procreate 14 Sept. 2010
By Chris Carter - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Don't know if I can describe this better than Warren, but I feel compelled to try. I have a hard time thinking of another album that sounds like this one. It's a very original sound, almost like some very accomplished musicians reading about "world music", taking acid and trying to replicate the imaginary soundtrack in their collective minds. It's extremely uncommercial - they were definitely NOT aiming for the charts with this. And they don't really sound like any other German band from that time - more like Mahavishnu Orchestra with weirder, less technical ideas. There seems to be some Indian influence on some of the tracks, a nice blend of acoustic and electric (I think they were less rock on this one than the previous album, Time Machine). Hopefully they'll get around to re-issuing this. When I want to hear something semi-mellow and intellectually stimulating, I reach for this.
HASH(0x9e0737a4) out of 5 stars Dzyan - 'Electric Silence' (Bellaphon) 25 Oct. 2010
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Originally released in 1975, as this was the krautrock band's third and final record. I seem to vaguely recognize the album cover. Tunes that make this title a worthy pick are the awesome sounding nine-minute epic "Back To Where We Come", "The Road Not Taken", the tripping "Khali" with it's amazing sound effects and the somewhat artsy-fartsy nine-minute "For Earthly Thinking". Line-up: Eddy Marron - guitar, sitar, mellotron & voice, Reinhard Karwatky - double bass, mellotron & voice and Peter Giger - percussion & drums. Recommended for fans of Mythos, early Agitation Free, Annexus Quam and maybe Gila.

My only issue is that I'd like for this to go on for another 10 or 20 minutes. True psychedelica from Germany. Love it.
