Product Description

This 27 track compilation is the first to covet the whole of the band's career. The Chesterfields were formed in 1984 in deepest Dorset and signed to Bristol's Subway Organisation label After having four Independent chart hit singles, including the highly rated 'Ask Johnny Dee', their debut album “Kettle” was released in 1987 and reached # 5 in the Indie Charts. Two more albums, “Westward Ho!” and “Crocodile Tears” followed over the next two years. “ELECTRIC GUITARS IN THEIR HEARTS” also features a previously unreleased version of 'Glad For You', with Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey), Clare Mactaggart (Portishead) and Andy Strickland (The Loft).

This album is superb,a real good way to get their music out there.Unfortunately i was to young to see them live but i do have a couple of lps,i will admit my favourite band is the smiths but the chesterfields are so true and iconic of the period i have always loved them. The first song i heard was" johnny dee" when i was 9.This album represents a time when music was proper 3 min jangly pop songs, its the first comp album for a while that all 27 tracks are quality. The last band i heard who were similar was "the upper room" so if that was your cup of tea this is for you.

At last, a Chesterfields retrospective putting the band where they belong, a kind of middling position in the jangly 80s scene. I saw them at Stourbridge Town hall many years ago, they were great then , and they still are. if you're thinking of buying this, you already know what they're like. perfect for this (and any other) summer.

Sheer Class.
Virtually all of The Chesterfield's studio output. I Remember seeing them on the chart show back in the day, and they are as good as you remember. if you like The Housemartins or The Brilliant Corners then this cd is a must

The Smiths meets The Housmartins sound plenty of jangly pop guitars and some great lyrics.
I heard a song by them many years ago on a radio, liked it, bought it and still like it now!
Youth eh!

Arrived in time and in great condition. I feel that this compilation is not the best that could have been released, fans will know which tracks are missing, should not be on there. Though all in all it is great to listen to the Chesterfields in the car, now i do not have a cassette player it it anymore.
