This is an interesting book which makes accessible aspects of life at the beginning of the 20th Century. Observations are tied to the films of Mitchell and Kenyon, DVDs of which have been produced by the British Film Institute and the BBC. A list of the films in the Peter Worden Mitchell and Kenyon is given categorised by both topics and location. More DVDs must surely be released by the BFI of items in the collection. The book is a well illustrated [more than 400 stills from the films] social history of Edwardian Britain. If you are interested in genealogy it will reveal how your ancestors earned their living and how they enjoyed themselves. If you are interested in the development of league and union rugger, how public transport developed or how child labour became constrained, this is the book for you. It is written for the general reader, but the superb bibliographies provide the opportunity for deeper investigations. Altogether, this is an excellent publication.
