Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

It has taken former butcher Andy Bell twenty years to get around to presenting a solo statement on electronic dance-pop. Of course he’s been a tad busy selling over fourteen million records alongside Erasure partner Vince Clarke, but finally he has found time to bring us fourteen personal tracks collectively called Electric Blue. Co-written and recorded with Manhattan Clique (aka Philip Larsen & Chris Smith of Erasure, Moby, The B-52’s, Stereophonics and Goldfrapp fame) the album features duets with Claudia Brucken (Propaganda and Act) and Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters) and embraces a surprising range of sounds. The expected camp-house anthems ("Caught In A Spin", lead single "Crazy") are contrasted by grittier material like the futuristic title track and "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", and periodically punctuated by romantic ballads such as "Runaway" and "Fantasy". A pop-tastic take on dance music from one of the scene’s true veterans.--Paul Sullivan

Product Description

4.0 out of 5 stars A Poptastic Treat 13 Oct 2005
Format:Audio CD
Andy Bell, one half of one of the most successful pop duos ever, Erasure, brings forth his first solo offering, and a rather excellent one it is to. It does obviously have some Erasure flavour running through it, but at the same time it has an very individual Andy Bell stamp on it. With are treated to Andy's great vocal range in tracks that have a much bouncier feel than what we heard on Erasure's last, and rather brilliant album, Nightbird. Stand outs for me are the top 40 smash "Crazy", the stomper "Shaking my Soul" and one of the best ballad synth tracks I've ever heard in "Fantasy". Downside is the Scissor Sisters collab. which really doesn't do anything for me at all. This is a delightful album and a refreshing change to all the guitar based sound the sames that are currently drowning the music scene. 4 on 5 as Alan Partridge may say.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous! 6 Oct 2005
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Andy Bell has taken this album straight to where Erasure should have gone over the past few years - it's electronic disco at its best!

Stand out tracks are Caught in a Spin and Crazy, the first single from the album, together with the fabulous Runaway and I'll Never Fall in Love Again.

The hotly anticipated duet with Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters) is sadly rather disappointing but the rest of the album certainly makes up for it. Buy this album now!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow 19 Oct 2005
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is the first review I've ever written for a CD I've purchased. Normally, I just either can't be bothered or don't have the time. As a long time Erasure fan (in excess of 40 CDs of theirs), I was a little skeptical of this offering. Would it have the Vince sound? Who are Manhattan Clique? I mean, I liked some of their Erasure mixes, but could they pull of a production effort on an entire CD? Well, if you've ever found yourself foot-tapping to an Erasure tune, get this CD. There are some *outstanding* tracks here. And, do yourself a favour a get the Crazy CD single with the mixes. Well worth it. Excellent, Andy. Just excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 30 Oct 2005
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I have been a fan of Erasure for years.
I was a bit sceptical about this CD but have to admit it is brilliant. Andy Bell's voice is very versatile and this CD is nothing like an Erasure CD and he still sounds excellent. I highly recommend this, I can't stop playing it. You get a real feel good factor from it, you can't be down hearted whilst listening to this. Even my birds sing like mad when it is on!

This album sees Mr Bell following his disco fantasies, rekindled by his recent djing stints around Europe playing Georgio Moroder and the like. As an electro beat throbs away he is joined with Claudia Bruecken [Propaganda] for the pulsing 'Love Oneself', a possibility for a next single, and Jake Shears [Scissor Sisters] for the hi-energy falsetto duet of 'I Thought It Was You'. 'Shaking My Soul' is a great Motown feeling song harking back to 'The Innocents' era Erasure of warm up-lifting pop. Great also are the slower ballads 'Fantasy' and 'The Rest of Our Lives' which together would make a rather good double A side for the Christmas season. All in all a debut well worth waiting for!
p.s. 'Little Girl Lies', a strong song where Andy shares his love of Blondie[b-side available on 'Crazy' single'], should have been on the album too!

5.0 out of 5 stars stonking 11 Sep 2006
Format:Audio CD
I've always liked Erasure's singles, but wouldn't regard myself as a true hardened fan,& when a friend offered to lend me this CD as she loved it,I basically took it out of politeness....not expecting much.

How wrong I was,it's absolutely fantastic,& to the extent that it's even compelled me to write my first ever review.

And contrary to a few of the other reviews,I think the Jake Spears duet is brilliant too.

Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Solo Album Debut from Andy Bell! 30 Jun 2006
Format:Audio CD
I have to admitt, I had low expectations about Andy Bell's first solo album 'Electric Blue', but I found myself completely taken aback when I bought it and heard it. As a huge fan of Erasure, I've also been fond of Andy Bell's vocals, but in this album they are used to their highest potential with such stand out tracks including 'Love Oneself', 'Electric Blue', 'Jealousy' and 'Fantasy'. The latter song 'Fantasy' is probably the best song on the album. It's a ballad with some outstanding lyrics which really capture my full attention when I listen to it. This song should have definately been released as a single.

Another stand out track is 'Shaking My Soul' which kind of reminds me of the early Erasure tracks from the late 80's.

Overall, Electric Blue is simply a great debut album from Andy Bell. Ok, it may not be quite the same without Andy's Erasure partner Vince Clark, but thanks to some outstanding lyrics and vocals from Andy, who cares.

If you haven't done so already, buy this album now. You DEFINATELY won't be disapointed.
