By Jason Parkes #1 HALL OF FAME
Format:Audio CD
Eldorado was the first Neil Young album I heard- working in a music chain in 1990, a co-worker played me this- telling me this was the NY release everyone liked. An epiphany occurred-
This was a Japanese-only release, credited to Neil Young & The Restless and produced by "The Volume Dealers"- NY and Niko Bolas. This was the severe return to form after many mediocre and/or poorly produced efforts like Landing on Water, Old Ways, Everybody's Rockin' & Life. These five tracks spelt out the next few years...
Three of the songs here: Don't Cry, a cover of Tin Pan Alley-standard On Broadway & title track Eldorado would recur on 1989's Freedom. Don't Cry has semi-industrial percussion, an Orbison-melacholy and a feedback assault Sonic Youth would have been proud of. On Broadway detonates the original, in a similar manner to cover versions in the subsequent years like Farmer John, Blowin in the Wind & All Along the Watchtower. Eldorado is more of a ballad- though evidence along with songs like 60to0, No More & Wrecking Ball that Young's muse had returned bigtime.
The two best tracks, otherwise unavailabe elsewhere, are Cocaine Eyes & Heavy Love. The former is a sonic assault around a theme not unlike that of the classic Tonight's the Night album- this song is often seen as a reaction to either Dave Crosby or Steve Stills addictions that Young saw up close on the C,S,N&Y album American Dream. As if Young hadn't been writing about the downside of addiction and the sublimation of the human since The Needle & The Damage Done! The sound here is immense, a pulsing set of blues-drones and Young howling "ain't a day goes by I don't burn a little bit of my soul".

5.0 out of 5 stars Neil Young at his best 27 Aug 2008
By Fletch-a-sketch TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Fans of the Freedom album should seek this out the version of 'Dont cry' is a quite different to the version on Freedom. The other songs from Freedom, 'Eldorado' and 'On broadway' also have some subtle diofferences as well. You also get the gutar riot that is cocaine eyes (a tribute to Steven Stills ?) and 'Heavy love'.
Neil Young at his uncompromising best, the Axe murderer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great EP. 26 April 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Delivered in the mail within a week (Sent to an adress in Copenhagen, Denmark). Great condition, and a great EP. Jap. only-released from late 80's. Half of it seems to have been used for the *freedom* album. But with a few extras, its really nice to have a listening to the 'Hit-factory-New York' session that kinda started his second rise to stardom. Brutal, and pure rocking. Excellent:)

3.0 out of 5 stars For Completists Only 20 Mar 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
And I am NY completist!
With only 2 tracks (of the 5) not available elsewhere, I was never going to pay the full import prices for this.
But I'm glad I've got it
