Product Description

Eldorado

The evening was going to be a normal Blues Brothers tribute show for Oliver and Stanley Rosenblum, The Jews Brothers till their agent JJ decides to send them to a mythical western town called Eldorado. With Cannibals, music and dancing this is not what Oliver and Stanley expected, especially when they find out that they are the main course of the day.

YES folks its Mamma Mia for horror fans.............In this comedy horror musical with a touch of Rocky Horror and Blazing Saddles thrown in.

This film was shot in Real 3D.

It's maybe problematic to "review" a movie I haven't actually seen, and will probably never see, but I feel compelled to register some sort of dissenting voice to the fan-gush of the only other current "review" (is this in fact one of those notorious bought-and-paid-for Amazon reviews?) I don't even see this DVD offered for sale in the USA, so came to look it up on Amazon.UK out of curiosity. All Richard Driscoll has to his credit in the US is a movie titled "Kannibal" and I understand that cannibalism features heavily in this DVD, perhaps more than the principals involved understood when they were cast or filmed their parts. Such a cheery subject, to be sure.

I know that Bond Girl and fantasy/horror actress Caroline Munro has a small part in the movie and was only given script pages for her scenes and was not aware of what the film was going to be like when it was finished -- whether or not it has been heavily modified and reworked post production or was always intended to be what it is I cannot say. The project does have a troubled history and suffered many delays before release. Maybe someone sniffed the whiff of a turkey early on. Anyway, I have read (in her own newsletter) that one of Caroline Munro's daughters watched the copy sent to their home and then hid it so her mother could not watch it. This tells me a lot about what an embarrassing stinker it must be. And Caroline has gone on to make a lot of further jokes about her next projects not involving so much cannibalism. I get the impression she is a bit mortified to be associated with this production, as may be many of the others in the cast.

So caveat emptor and all that.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter Waste Of Money!! AVOID! 14 Jan 2013
Format:DVD
This has now had 19 mins cut and re-released as "Highway To Hell" It was utter and complete crud in this release, cutting 19 mins and then re-releasing it just seven months later hasn't improved it any. It needs less than 1 star but I can't give it that because 1 star is the minimum on Amazon. Perhaps if he releases it again under some other titles he can claw back a bit more of the money he wasted on making it. Or maybe he could write some more of his own Hype Hype reviews for it. That should do the trick and fool people into wasting their hard earned cash on it.

Deluded, technically incompetent drivel and meandering crud are possibly the best things that an be said about it as a movie. Good job DVD Players have OFF buttons.

5.0 out of 5 stars A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM 22 Dec 2012
By Michael
Format:Blu-ray
The film appears to be an avant-garde musical grindhouse spoof of the Blues Brothers. The great Peter O'Toole narrates while Daryl Hannah reads poetry from Edgar Allen Poe.

The Jews Brother, Oliver (Richard Driscoll) and Stanley (Darren Morgan) are sent on gigs by their near blind agent (Steve Guttenberg)who confuses their job with that of a stripper. Eventually all the subplots wind up in Eldorado. Michael Madsen plays a detective searching for the wife of a strip club owner driving a big yellow Trans Am. Bond girl, Caroline Munro is unrecognizable as Lily.

The background set is surreal. The music is all lip sync (thankfully) . The dialogue needed work. Other movies spoofed included: "The Pirates of the Caribbean,", "O Brother Where Art Thou," Blazing Saddles," "Kill Bill," and "10,000 Maniacs." There were a few more and some I didn't catch. This is a different type of movie, not for everyone.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, nudity (Alexis Caley, girl under table, strippers, etc.)

Eldorado is the latest instant cult classic from Richard Driscoll, the renegade auteur behind such previous instant cult classics like The Comic (arguably the best horror film of the mid-1980s), The Cold Light of Day (arguably the best horror film of the late-1980s) and the more recent Kannibal (arguably a better film than either Hannibal, Silence of the Lambs or Hannibal Brooks). I must admit to being a huge fan of Driscoll's work, to the fangirl degree that I have named all of my cats after his films, which can be a little embarrassing when calling them in at night.

After establishing himself as the most important force in British horror films since Hammer, Eldorado (which has nothing to do with the inferior 1967 film of the same name nor the 1990s TV soap opera) is a change of pace for Driscoll since it sees him attempting comedy, and of course succeeding beyond anyone's wildest expectations, did we expect anything else from him? Whilst the plot is at times hard to follow-which might be my fault rather than Driscoll's- it seems to draw on elements from The Blues Brothers, Reservoir Dogs, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and (I think) The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. I believe the film was originally shot in 3D, but the DVD is in 2D, however it is a film that truly transcends the dimensions, besides it means this 2D version will surely become a collector's item when the 3D version eventually comes out.
The film has great, universal appeal, as it is a musical (i.e. it has songs in it) I invited a few gay best friends to watch it with me, and we all ended up dancing and singing along to it, no doubt losing weight in the process, it felt more like a Wii-Fit game than a film experience at times, even my cats enjoyed it!!
