5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic price for quality ear protection 27 Sep 2010
By Paul Cook TOP 1000 REVIEWER

Having gone to hundreds of gigs I started to notice that the buzzing, hissing noise was not going away completely. Real Tinnitus is a horrible, sometimes debilitating condition and I have no intention of developing it. I tried several different types of plugs from tissue paper (desperation at a particularly loud gig), through the foam types and waxy cotton wool. All worked but really affected the quality of listening.
Then I discovered these. Having a flatter frequency response it's more like the entire volume has been turned down. Another benefit I have found is that you suddenly get decent separation of the various instruments and vocals - you can hear the words!
They are relatively comfortable, easy to insert, especially if moistened, and come with a linking cord and handy pouch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Item for musicians 19 Nov 2010
After suffering from sore and ringing ears from regularly rehearsing and gigging in a band over the last 18 months I finally thought it was time to find a solution!

After searching various music sites for suggestions these ear plugs looked to be the ones to go for. And the price offered by the supplier was the best I could find.

I read the other reviews and can only agree with what has already been said.

For me as a drummer it is important that I can still hear all the other instruments clearly, just not quite as loud as they're played (we all know how guitarists like to keep turning up their guitars throughout rehearsals!).

These plugs were better than I expected not only do they reduce the volume they actually make the overall sound clearer, they remove all the 'horrible' noise that can often interfere with what you're actually trying to listen to. Now I can actually hear what the other band members are playing (2 guitarists, 1 bass and a singer) so makes my job on the drums a little bit easier.

Totally recommend this product for musicians wanting to protect their hearing and also to improve the clarity of the sound around you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yes, they work. 14 Aug 2011
I bought these ear plugs to see a band, a loud band of course, and over the years I've not been happy with the ringing in my ears the next day. I wanted something to protect my ears.

At first, when I tried them out at home, they hurt a bit. I am a small girl with small ears, but I think they hurt only because I was getting over a cold and my whole head was still aching.

When it came to the gig however, I put them in before the music started and there was a little discomfort at first but after a few minutes they were fine and they didn't bother me all night. I could hear the music so much better with them in, the sound of the crowd beside me was filtered out to some extent, but I could still talk comfortably to my friends. I took them out for a minute for the last song to see how they worked, and the music was a lot louder/harsher/noisier when I didn't have them in.

One more thing, the ends of the plugs stick out a bit from your ears. I was worried they would get knocked out or even worse further in to my ear, but they were fine. I wouldn't want to wear them in the pit though I think that they could get bashed in by accident.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gig ear protection that works 21 Mar 2013
By JohnT

I was slightly sceptical that these rather delicate looking things would work.

I went to gig last night that was industrial metal band The Defiled, followed by thrash metal band Gojira, followed by a more melodic metal Ghost. The fist two were at a crushing volume. With The Defiled, I had to endure continuous bass pressure waves due to over amplified bass and drums. So loud that it vibrates not just your stomach, but your whole body. I wondered whether these plugs would hold out. Next up, Gojira. Almost as loud with occasional massive pressure waves (and occasional melody). Finally, Ghost at a more "normal" concert volume. The entire event was nearly 3 hours of music.

Took out the plugs at the end and not a hint of ringing. Only a very slight hum to suggest that my ears had been busy but not beaten mercilessly. I had also noticed that these plugs filter the more damaging bass volume but allow you to hear most of the treble so you don't get as much of the muffling effect of all frequencies that you get with ordinary ear plug (where the treble is almost inaudible).

Also, the pouch helps keep them clean but accessible.

Overall, this is an excellent product that has made loud concerts enjoyable rather than something to endure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turns the volume down without muffling sound. 11 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase
These are simply brilliant. They turn down the volume of whatever situation you're in without muffling any sound (like foam plugs do). Watching gigs I can hear every instrument perfectly and nothing is dulled or muffled, it's just quieter. At the same time I can also hear every word my friends say (if they lean in close) without them having to shout.

They little end cap does protrude out your ear a bit, but not so anyone would really notice. The pouch they come in is also handy for stopping them getting covered with pocket fluff.

They also come in a smaller size, which is a better fit for my wife.

I frequently recommend these to friends and family, and happily bought a second set when I lost the first.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK, but are these really "musicians" earplugs? I don't think so.
They do the job, but frankly I'm not sure what these have that is any different from 0.50 earplugs. They do cut out a lot of frequencies, specially lows. Read more
