4.0 out of 5 stars Travadinha - an amazing ethnic violin player 12 Nov 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Those of you who already know about Cape Verdean music will not be surprised at the feeling of sadness which pervades this album. Created only a few months before his death in 1988 by a violin virtuoso the like of which we will probably never see again, this album is a must for all fans of Cape Verdean music. The violin playing is astonishing in it's range of tone and phrasing - totally different to any classical or folk styles that you will have heard before. The backing is traditional Cape Verdean: no drum kit, no bass. a lot of shaker, guitars (including their onw variant kniow as the viola) and of course the cavaquinho. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cape Verde fiddle music at its best 8 Nov 2001
By "rcmendes" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Travadinha is a well known musician in Cape Verde for his mastery of the fiddle in the two genres of music of tradicional music: mornas and coladeras.
This recording allows you to dance at the sound of the coladeras and to listen to the beautiful sound of the mornas. It is a must for anyone who appreciates this kind of music. I would even recommend it as a way to introduce someone to Cape Verde music (not forgetting of course Cesaria Évora), I am sure that they will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing 19 Jun 2003
By Nathaniel C. Landau - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This Album is one of my all time favorites. Travadinha's playing is exquisite and the songs beautiful. Played this cd so many times I had to buy a second one as my first got scratched. If you like the sound of mournful violin and acoustic guitar with a cape verdean twinge this album is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars this will blow you away 13 July 2004

Fantastic music. The best of Cape Verde, and that is saying a lot. The two vocals are evocative. A pity Travadinha made only one recording.
