I was going to buy a briquette maker but after reading reviews and talking to a friend they put me off with all the hassle of wetting and waiting to dry etc , saw these bands and yes they work fine , not as good as a real log but they burnt so giving off heat , i used thomsom local directory , newspapers etc , you can pull them apart to fit larger things in but don't know if that will weaken them , overall they are usefull and no hassle to use

These worked quite well and give off quite a bit of heat, however, they do require a lot of paper per band. I had to roll 3 whole papers (free Metros from the train) per band.
The big downer for me is that the main source of air for my mixed fuel stove is from beneath and the large amount of ash from the masses of paper tends to clog up the air holes.
If you have an open fire then this probably won't be an issue.

Amazon Verified Purchase
This product is cheap and does exactly as it is supposed to. You roll about 6 newspapers as tightly as you can and slip the band over the roll and hey presto! done. It helps the fire to light and burns in my stove for approx 15-20 mins.
BUT, I have 2 quibbles,
1.The bands have started to bend with use (about 10 uses), and I expect them to break quite soon. In order to get the roll of paper in they need to bend a bit, and if they were fully rigid I couldn't manage them at all with my arthritic hands.
2.They are quite hard to find amongst the ashes.
However I am glad to have a use for newspapers as my recycling centre is a 40 mile round trip.

An expensive solution.
These steel bands haven't lasted very long. After 10 fires they are weak, not holding their shape or the newspapers tightly. Read more

Briquette Bands
Excellent product. Very long lasting if used when fire is not burning too fiercely, and try to remove bands from fire when log has burnt rather than leave in fire for hours.

not to great!
In our experience these burn really hot, then the ash puts the fire out! two of the four bands have warped. Maybe not great for wood burners? didnt work for us.
