When nineteen-year-old Naomi Stone is snatched from her husband at knifepoint on the night of their wedding and taken to a deserted cemetery, she knows her life is finished. Drugged and disorientated, she loses consciousness as she lies in an open grave with a gun to her head. But the following day, she mysteriously awakes to find herself unharmed and secured to a bed. She's in a beautiful bedroom in a secluded cottage in open countryside. Only one person knows she’s there – the man in the balaclava who’s holding her, feeding her, revealing nothing. Naomi senses the unfolding of a plan. She should be on honeymoon in the Caribbean. Instead, she’s trapped with an emotionless psycho with no hope of escape . . . And his voice is chillingly familiar.
Who is he? What does he want? What's happened to her husband? Where is she? Will anyone find her before it's too late?

More About the Author

Tori de Clare, born 1970, grew up in Greater Manchester. Having taught piano for 25 years in between being a full-time stay-at-home mum of four, she began writing almost five years ago. Having worked with children and young people for so long, it seemed natural to write for that audience. Her debut novel, Either Side of Midnight, was intended for young adults, but has been widely accepted by an adult readership also. She intended it to be the kind of novel that could be enjoyed by almost anyone. She now lives in East Yorkshire and continues to teach music and write books and finds time for little else beyond family. Daughter of two pianists, it was hardly a surprise that music became Tori's career.
Tori de Clare: 'Both my parents were good at two things: music and writing. Those two things run strongly in our family. My dad died when I was 18. In his spare time, he never had a book out of his hands and aspired to having a book of his own published. Having never had the chance to realise his dream, this book is dedicated to him and to my mum who taught me to play the piano.'
Tori's next book (already written) will be the start of a YA paranormal suspense series due to be released in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read 29 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Read this on a recommendation and I am so glad that I did. This is a great mystery/thriller with some interesting twists which take you by surprise. Love the switch between present day and events leading up to the wedding - you never find yourself lost or confused with the switch.

Would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys novels in this genre of fiction - and maybe even for those who don't!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended 28 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book which kept me hooked throughout. Well written and highly recommendable. I thought I could predict what was going to happen, but it changed course several times I liked the way it was taken from different time zones and characters but it fitted together in an intelligent way, .great writing skills. I look forward to more books from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars pull a sicky- you wont be able to put this down 15 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a keen reader, and will pick up most books that interest me from the blurb. A lot I tend to put down again to be long forgotten about. NOT this book though. from the word go I was completely gripped by the believable characters and clever story. Then just as I began to feel a sense of familiarity and comfort in the structure of the genre, It completely twisted and led me down a different path. Some jaw dropping moments when I literally said out loud "OMG NOOO way"
I personally love stories to have a good conclusion that leaves me satisfied and with out giving anything away the climax was brilliant with just a hint of girl power leaving my internal monologue going "YES"

A MUST read for the summer. Gripping and light enough to lazily enjoy in the sun, but with enough intelligence to keep your brain active. Unpredictable and clever. A serious page turner (I actually lost 2 days on this book)

so get a class of wine, pass on cooking duty and enjoy.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Little Juvenile For Me 25 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This wasn't for me though it came highly recommended via a Twitter pal and the reviews were mostly very good. I wondered in a couple of places if English was the author's first language only to see she grew up over here so it can't be. Plus a lot of it seemed to be written geared to the Young Adult audience or teens in quite juvenile language. Also for me there was too much of the old god-bothering !!
The story sounded an intriguing one and I liked the reasoning behind the title. There were some very funny lines in it too. I just got a little bored by it and packed it in at 37%.
There were odd sentences as I mentioned earlier which made me wonder about English as a foreign language-like "the hotel wall expired" and "the worst thing was weighing down on small stones" then "the odd figure-out was dark". However many times I read these they made little sense.
There were a few words dropped from sentences such as you/and/she then tousle was used in place of tussle, practise was consistently spelt that American way for some reason, ark was spelt as arc and my final straw was trace used in place of trance. I gave up then.
If it had been tidied up a little I'd maybe have stuck with it after getting this far as the actual back story did sound a good idea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected but Amazing 25 Oct 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
4.5 stars

Sometimes you read a book that is a breath of fresh air and is exactly what you were looking for but you didn't even realise it. This perfectly sums up this book for me. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book but it absolutely blew me away. Either Side of Midnight is an incredible suspense novel that will keep you guessing throughout but gets even more amazing once the truth is revealed.

The book is told from multiple pov's though the main focus by far is Naomi's perspective and it also alternates between present time which is this confusion Naomi has woken up in and the year leading to that moment. This means there are two aspects to the story, Naomi's bizarre kidnapping and the seemingly simple romance story of her starting at University and meeting the guy that will become her Husband.

Parts of this book are very much what you would expect in a typical New Adult romance novel but the rest is very unique. This book is far from being a typical NA!

I really loved Naomi. At the start she seems quite weak and gullible but she grows into this strong character who won't let anyone mess with her. She ends up being the sort of character who plays with fire in the hope that those who have wronged her will get burned.

As for the rest of the characters, well, let's just say I feel a mix of hatred and love and then leave it at that :P

Either Side of Midnight is perfect for readers who like books that will screw with your mind. Fans of the Consequences series by Aleatha Romig in particular will love this book. A must read!

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, this has not affected my opinions or rating in any way.*

4.0 out of 5 stars Four and half stars 27 July 2013
By Deborah TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found this book odd in the beginning I stuck with it partly because the write up had me intrigued and also the reviews were all really good, I'm so glad I did its well worth a read. I didn't give five stars because there were a few bits that didn't sit right with me but on the whole it's a really great book that will keep you guessing, I thought I had it all figured out a out a quarter of the way in but I was wrong.
