Having started listening to Jazz music in the late 50s and early sixties this album is a real gem. How do they get 8 albums on to 4 CDs and charge only $16? Apparently this music in the UK has passed into the public domain so no royalties. The albums are The Art farmer Septet (1953), When Farmer Met Gryce (1955), Two Trumpets (1956), Farmer's Market (1956), Modern Art (1958), Bennie Green With Art Farmer (1956), Brass Shout (1959) and Aztec Suite (1959). The cover sleeve says the tracks have been digitally remastered although some sound a little fuzzy and the early ones are in mono but the music shines through.
One the sleeve notes there are a list of 96 Jazz sets of just about every Jazz giant including Coltrane, MJQ, Bill Evans, Charlie Mingus, Oscar Peterson, Ceceil Taylor, Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins and Miles Davis. I could go on but you get the picture. Real Gone Jazz (UK) are to be congratulated.
