Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The title of this game alone should give you an idea of what to expect. Your bald main character known only as "47", wakes up in a padded cell, a mysterious voice guides you out of the maze and this introduction serves as a training mission for the entire game. The opening mission isn't exactly a complete walkover, but by then you've learned the ropes necessary to actually play--though a wheel mouse is essential for easiest navigation through the menus.

There are 12 levels to garrotte, sneak, disguise, shoot and bomb your way through, and these take you through various cities world-wide with a stop-off in the jungle for good measure.

The control method is mastered after a while, and though you can redefine your own keys the default number pad block of a PC keyboard is hard to fault. The programmers' attention to detail is captured by the graphics--it's hard not to be impressed the first few times 47 pushes his way past a hanging drape and it flutters for real--and the excellent in-game music adds to the atmosphere. Stop to admire the scenery at the wrong time, however, and you will witness the Chinese action-style fade to white deathscene once too often. The title reveals the inevitable 15 rating--though the blood's not heavy enough to warrant a real BBFC 15, just the ELSPA recommendation.

Hitman is not a first-person 3-D shooter, nor a totally stealth-oriented sneaker like the Thief series, and it's as if the control method was made complex enough to distinguish it from both genres. With no in-game save, it's hard work but makes the game longer than 12 levels sound, with a real sense of achievement when you finally succeed. So if you want a heavy challenge, it's the one to go for. --Kenneth Henry

Product Description

In this stealth shooting game you are a mysterious assassin without an identity. Use stealth and tactical problem solving to carry out "hits" on a number of high-powered criminal adversaries. Plan each assignment carefully, and learn how to be a more proficient computer hitman through a weapons and agility training session. You will have access to black-market weapons, decoys, traps and personnel through a currency reward programme, but how you use them will determine if you retire as a millionaire or get permanently retired.

This has to be the most stunning and stylish game I've ever played. Never have I had as much satisfaction shooting people as I have had in this game. Games like half-life I've only played once, but in this I find myself running around levels just shooting people for the fun of it (no I'm not a psycho). The way the bodies and scenery move is just amazing. Shoot the semi-naked woman in the bum and the cheeks wobble. Leaves on plants sway as you brush pass them. I admit it can be frustrating at times as their is no save function and enemies behaviour was un-predictable at times, but this is one of the best games I've ever played. I have yet to see a game with as much detail as this. Makes you really feel like you're their. Sometimes after taking a guards outfit with sun glasses and a suit, if I'd see myself in a mirror I just had to say "looking good". If you want to be a real James Bond/Cleaner/Hitman whatever, then buy this. Now if only I had a gun...

My first impressions of the opening levels was this far too easy but upon reaching the the 3rd levels and got more into the game i was sudenly surprised. this game teaches you to unlearn most of what have lernt from fps such half-life and doom. Stealth and the silent kills are paramount to your survial. eidos have done have a great justice with this game. and it rarly leaves my drive. next to project igi. i have enjoyed and still am enjoying trying to complete 47.

Good game and i think a sequal is well on the books.

Forget it 19 Jun 2001
I used to stick to the rule that i`d only buy a game if it recieved some good reviews in the magazines. And having bought this i`m sticking to it again. Apart from the bugs, the ridiculous loading times, the shallow gameplay and the fact it stinks of a beta version. It could have been a good game. I hoped it would be somewhere along the lines of metalgear solid. But no. I completed about six levels and then gave up. I just couldn`t be bothered any more. Apart from `heist` this has to be one of the poorest games i`ve purchased in a long time. The bugs may have been due to my hardware setup. But judging by the online forums i`m not the only one to have suffered. Maybe eidos should forget deadlines and actualy release finished games.
