Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Conflict: Vietnam follows the progress of four US soldiers, Ragman, Junior, Hoss and Cherry, cut off from their unit during the 1968 Tet Offensive and tasked with fighting their way back to friendly lines. A third person shooter where the player takes full control of all four squad members, Conflict: Vietnam does not set out to depict the course of the war; instead we witness four men struggling for survival in the hostile Vietnam jungle against a ruthless terrain and seemingly ever-present "invisible" enemy.

With 14 missions spanning a variety of environments you must lead your squad down Vietnamese rivers manning the guns on a heavily armoured river boat into local villages (with friendly and non-friendly fire) to rescue hostages, through ruined temples and the claustrophobic jungle and into the ancient Vietnamese capital of Hue.

Armed with an array of heavy artillery your squad must also use make use of transportation abandoned by the Viet-Cong or discarded by captured US troops such as tanks, boats and helicopters, in addition to any surplus weaponry you acquire including gun placements and two-manned mortar sites.

Lastly, and by no means least, keep a watchful eye out for the Viet-Cong booby traps, from grenade trip wires and water mines to the punji stake pit trap and the "Bouncing Betty" anti-personnel mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars A decent, credible action packed game., 6 Sep 2004
By R. B. Powell "Happy customer" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I waited patiently for the gaming industry to realise that by looking for popular film genres you would find equally popular games genres. Now vietnam has been noticed there are many games in the pipeline for it. Conflict: Vietnam is brought by the same people who brough you Conflict: Desertstorm/CD:2.
Both previous games in this vein were excellent.
Expect the same but better.
Conflict:Vietnam is an excellent game. I pre-ordered through Amazon and received it the day after release.

Pros: Atmoshpere- the game has it in bundles. From the firebase with 60's music blaring out of radios (Jefferson aeroplane, Rolling Stones) to the steamy vietnamese jungle, the crack of a rifle shot, the screams of your men panicking under fire.
Truely outstanding.
Gameplay- the conflict series has a quite steep learning curve, the first time you take down a viet-cong you feel quite chuffed. The next time your in a fire-fight you realise you have to pay complete attention. You cannot sit still or a situation will overwhelm you. The game requires intelligence, quick thinking and a responsive attitude towards the environment.
Graphics/sound- Spot on. To the crack of sniper fire, the boom of grenades and the worrying 'clank-clank' of tank tracks which aren't yours. The graphics are above par for the PS2.

Overall I would recommend this to anyone who wants a thinking mans combat game- this is not a 'blast-a-minute' shooter.
Excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good morning Vietnam!!!, 5 Aug 2005
This game is superb and I throughly recommend it. The jungle environment provides a great challange with hard to spot enemies and lot's of booby traps. You'll even have enemies that you think are dead who then turn over and roll a grenade at you as you approach. You command a squad of four who you can either move through the terrain as a group or split up to follow different routes through the jungle. After each mission you can also improve your soldiers skills depending on how well they preformed in the mission just completed. Even on easy level this game provides a good challange. Buy this game, you will not be dissapointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Die Vietnam, 4 Sep 2004
By A Customer
Im a big fan of the first two conflict games and couldnt wait for this release. At first glance the graphics and FMV sequences are better whilst still using the original controls. Im only a few missions into the game but it is quite hard! Booby traps and mines mean you can all be blown up without even knowing it. The list of weapons available has grown as well as well as group tactics and controls. The only down side I see is that the controls still can be improved for little things like turning around quickly or the time it takes to heal yourself. Other that that all missions link nicely and is definatley a game worth purchasing!!
