This is a well-designed and made product. The dried fish food is held in a container that revolves through 360 degrees when feeding. As the container revolves food is tipped out through an opening that is adjustable in size. A small fan blows air through the container during the tipping process and this prevents moisture from entering which could potentially cause the dried food to clog.
This unit is powered by batteries. I wasn't able to programme feeding times without referring to the instruction book but the example in the book solved this. The feeder can be set to feed up to four times a day. I set it to give just one feed a day. I used a combination of Tetra Pro flakes which are ideal for my Large Angels; some partially crushed Tetra Min for the small fish and a small quantity of Tetra Prima sinking granules. I also adjusted the filter to provide extra water movement at the surface to ensure that some of the food sank quickly for the bottom feeders.
I carefully removed the feeding flap from the aquarium lid and covered the hole with a plastic sheet to prevent fish jumping out and excess water evaporation. I then cut a hole in the plastic big enough for the food to fall through. The feeder simply sits on the aquarium lid - no need for clamps, brackets etc.
I would advise buying this feeder at least a few days before your holiday to allow time to practice with it. The measured dose of food can vary in size from one feed to the next and so if in any doubt set it to feed smaller amounts of food than you normally would. I recently returned from a two week holiday and all the fish were fine.
Very good product, but needs a bit of practice to get things quite right.

Simply the best feeder I've bought. Slightly more expensive than previous feeders, but solidly built. I think this will last several years. I disagree with the previous reviewer - instructions were very clear and I had this up & running in 10 minutes flat!

I have bought this before a one month long trip. It feeds my fish on time with a fixed amount of fish food, very good design and very reliable product as well.

Bought this in readiness for three week away this summer. I have just been away for five nights and have come home to find very happy fish. I use small pellets, and this seems to dispense fine. I think the fan is a very clever trick as it keeps moisture away from the food. I now know that this summer's holiday will be ok for the fish! Not sure if I would use flake in it, as flakes can be very prone to clogging up the aperture.
Buy it!

Used it for two weeks over Christmas with a mixture of flake and pellet food. Never got blocked or stopped working. Easy to set feeding times. Takes a few attempts to get the right feeding amount though, worth testing it over a plate or something before using it in the tank.

Yes it's not the cheapest feeder on the market but it works very reliably and very efficiently.
The design is such that if you follow the instructions carefully, the food kept in the container will not become moist and clog even when directly over the tank water. There is a clever air intake which must be kept away from water so that during the feeding cycle, a tiny plastic air impeller wafts fresh air through the food chamber keeping the food dry and fresh. Simple but effective.
The opening where food falls out into your tank is kept upright away from the water surface when the feeder is at rest. When it's time for the fish to be fed, the food container rotates allowing food to fall out into your tank.
There is a slide over the food container aperture to regulate how much food the fish are given. Practice with this slide onto a clean A4 piece of paper will get this bit just right for your own setup before using in anger on the actual tank.
Everything other than food is included in the box, including batteries.
I have the feeder sitting on top of my tank and it is perfectly balanced and sits securely without fear of any vibrations causing the feeder to move in your absence. If you don't have a tank hood or other flat surface then a side mounting clamp is included.
Superb build quality and easy to setup. I have no trouble in recommending this premium unit, well done Eheim, I can trust that my fish will get their food on short breaks away from home.

Bought two, use them for holidays.
Make absolutely sure you check you have the setup procedure right.
These things will work fine, and is reliable, but ONLY if you get the setup right.

I used this when I left my flat for a few days over chistmas.
It worked fine, at least all the fish were still fine when I came back.
However the fish food flakes inside the device were already wet and started sticking together.
It still worked in that state, I tested it after coming back, but I wouldn't trust it to feed my fish for much longer.
So I will keep using this for when I am only away for less than a week, but not for longer.
