Professional Belly Dancers - Watch This Space.......,
This review is from: Egyptian Belly Dancing For Intermediates with Hilary Thacker [DVD] (DVD)
I bought this DVD along with Hilary's beginner's DVD. I was not put off with previous reviews regarding picture quality/sound. This one is much better made than the beginner's one, and it's good to progress using the same style as learnt in the beginner's DVD. I also liked the features using other learner dancers, as it was just like being in the class with them. The scene with Hilary demonstrating the use of the stick was amazing. I have recently started belly dancing classes, and have been dreading learning to dance with the stick, but the way Hilary demonstrates it, even I think I could manage it - eventually! I would definately recommend this DVD.

This dvd is nothing more than a copy from a poor unprofessionally filmed home camcorder. The sound and picture in places is terrible and 40 minutes is filled with lots of unuseful repetition. The saying dont judge a book by its cover doesnt work here as the quality of the cover is as bad as the contents no way near worth £15, If you wish to learn belly dancing go join a class

Before I start I would give this a 4.5, but there is no 4.5 so I rounded up.
Good points: ITS BALADI! I think this requires mention. There is hardly any DvDs out there (one other that I know of) for Baladi. It is very different from any other style and most Egyptian DvDs are Raq Sharqi, which is modern Egyptian, the styles are completly different. Its packed full of moves. There are loads of different types of moves in this, you could probably make a choreography from just the moves in this DVD. The angle of the filming with mirror behind is very helpful. She gives mentions on what your arms should be doing. Her instructions, there is enough instruction too, and moves are very easy to follow and her discriptions of moves witht he cane are very useful. The bits with the class gives a bit more instruction and helps a lot. Bad points: Its really short. I would have preferred a bit longer with slight more repetitions of each move. The sound and video. The video is fine though a bit fuzzy but does not hinder learning the moves, however the sound is very hard to hear at points. Turn it right up! If you have good speakers this should not be a problem for you however if you don't invest in some good wireless headphones. Though even still she is slightly hard to hear and tell what she is saying when speaking over the moves recorded by a mic instead as as she is doing the moves. but it is not a big hindrance. Her hips are easy for follow. Overall this is a great DvD. Requires slight more work to learn from than should be nessisary because of the sound however this DvD is essential for learning Baladi.
