Product Description

“I adore Egyptology and so the author's vivid writing and scenery spoke to me. Kate's character was phenomenal, her character was hilarious and snarky. I loved it!” ABNA

It was on that fateful day at the British Museum with her guardian, Agnes Westbrook, that Kathryn - Kate to her friends - first became aware of Pharaoh Nakhtifi. This is a Pharaoh that does not exist according to the academics, yet at this very moment, is the sole reason why Kate is about to encounter 3000 year old soldiers, at the bottom of an ancient Egyptian tomb in Luxor. What is worse, is that these ancient soldiers have been sent with a single aim - to kill her. Definitely not something that every thirteen year old expects to encounter, not when on a two week holiday in Egypt, but then after all, this is Kathryn Black.
Join Kate, Alex and their Egyptian friend Cairo as they visit tombs and temples, and experience fear, friendship and humour in equal parts.

This approximately 110,000 word novel with its unique story, where there is not an Egyptian mummy in sight, will leave you wanting to follow their adventures in Kathryn Black ~ Death in Luxor. Available in the second half of 2012.

100% of the author’s profits of Kathryn Black and the Theban Curse go directly to Animal Welfare of Luxor - AWOL. Read, enjoy and know that your purchase will help this very hard working charity, to look after even more of the hard working animals, in the very poor farming villages on the west bank of Luxor.

History and Humour 5 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It vividly brings to life ancient Egypt and modern day Luxor too. If you are not already captivated by tombs, temples, and the hustle and bustle of Luxor, you will be after reading this. It will appeal to all age groups and particularly to anyone who has visited Egypt or is planning to, and if you aren't lucky enough to visit, reading the book is like having an exciting adventure there. The characters are extremely well written and it was great to get to know Kathryn and her friends, but also the ancient people and gods.

I particularly liked the humour in the book. Even though it educates the reader about ancient Egypt, it is done in a light hearted and fun way, which is the best way to encourage an interest in the subject. It is very commendable that the author is giving all of the proceeds to the charity Animal Welfare of Luxor, which gives free veterinary care on Luxor's west bank, so you not only enjoy a great read when you buy the book, but you also help animals too. I would recommend this book to everyone and I am looking forward to a sequel and a film!

It's a long time since I read a "children's" book but I wanted to support the excellent Animal Welfare of Luxor so I downloaded this one on Kindle.

Once I got going with the book, I did find it quite an exciting read. It almost took me back to the days of my avid Enid Blyton obsession. Yes, I actually did read her books with a torch under the bedclothes when I was supposed to be asleep because I could never put them down!

Most people are interested in ancient Egypt and this book does a great job of blending modern and ancient, reality and fantasy. There's even the satisfying "evil adult" figure in the shape of Aunt Aggie - always something of a necessity in writing for children. It's a book entirely readable for adults though.

Most of all, it supports a worthwhile cause for the very needy animals in Luxor and the brilliant work the Animal Welfare charity does out there.

Recommended, especially for pre-teens, who will find the story exciting and educational.
