This is a very good brief guide. But Michael Haag has also written two far more comprehensive guides to Egypt, both published by Cadogan Guides -- one titled EGYPT, the other titled CAIRO-LUXOR-ASWAN -- and if you are really interested in getting to know Egypt, you should use one of those. They are the very best guides to Egypt available, written by an expert.

This book to Egypt is a masterpiece, surely the best guide to the country since the great Baedeker edition of 1929. The practical information is comprehensive, detailed, informed and reliable. But what really matters is the intimate knowledge of his subject matter that Mr Haag brings to this work -- clearly he knows Egypt inside out and his love for the country shines through in every well-written line. Whether writing about ancient temples or Islamic mosques or Christian monasteries in the desert, his learning and illumination are unmatchable. I cannot imagine that I would have enjoyed my visit to Egypt a quarter so much had I not travelled with such a gifted companion -- and I look forward to returning again and again. I cannot recommend the Cadogan Guide to Egypt by Michael Haag enough -- have a look for yourself and see.
