Review

'A little cracker ... comprehensive , nicely illustrated, handily pocket-sized'
--Artists and Illustrators Magazine

Product Description

Egon Schiele lived in Vienna during its last years as capital of the declining Habsburg Empire. Rejected by his family and hounded by society for his interest in young girls, he expressed through his art a deep and bewildering loneliness and an obsession with sexuality, death and decay. Schiele died at the age of twenty-eight, yet he left behind him a body of work that sustains a huge public reputation and myth. This profusely illustrated book delves into both the controversial sexual themes and neglected aspects of Schieles art, notably his formal experiments and his later expressionist portraits and allegorical paintings works that reveal much about the importance of his short career.

Beautiful book, quality pages and perfect size 11 Feb 2011
By Penny - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I was immediately attracted to this book in its size and weight, like a small dayplanner. It drew me in with page after page of beautiful pictures, and many of them are not the famous and popularly reprinted drawings you see everywhere. I was a bit surprised to see the picture of the historian who put the book together, Jean-Louis Gailleman, at the back of the book-- his photograph looks suspiciously like the cover drawing. Not to mention that the title of the book is the Egoist (Of course, I know it refers to Schiele himself). Anyway, this is a wonderful book to have in your collection for a little daily inspiration!

Egoist is a winner 30 Dec 2008
By hlangberg - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
this book is very small and portable, yet in full rich color - with many plates, including a few rarities... it gives a full detailed biography of Schiele, along with an English translation of his poems and prison writings... recommend for any Schiele fan, great for traveling. Good companion to Comini's Schiele in Prison.
