Product Description

Review

"Ogo Akubue-Ogbata tells a very human story in Egg-Larva-Pupa-Woman. Her voice is assured. A writer of great promise, she has added the needed dimension to Nigerian Independence and the marking of the Black History Month." --The Guardian

"Ọgọ Akubue-Ogbata dares to walk where angels fear to tread... In Egg-Larva-Pupa-Woman she creates a heroine, Nkiru, whose history blends seamlessly into the history of the Nigerian nation and by extension the black world." --Caine Prize nominee Maxim Uzoatu for ThisDay Newspaper - Nigeria

"Ọgọ, this is wonderful. The language is rich, the Nigerian voices audible, the motivations stark and powerful. There is lots of beautiful and unusual imagery in this story as well as emotion and tension."
--Julia Mary Lichtblau, New York - USA: Veteran Financial Journalist (for Business Week, Dow Jones and Wall Street Journal), 2007 winner of The Paris Writer's Workshop Scholarship and Member of The Writer's Room NYC

Product Description

Egg-Larva-Pupa-Woman is the story of a privileged Nigerian girl whose life is disrupted by a series of unusual events and the loss of innocence as she knows it. Striving to survive in the wake of her country's independence from British rule, she meets an aspiring diplomat with radical political views, a man who asks for more than she knows how to give. They embark on a love affair but can she put the past behind her or will her scandalous secret destroy everything? Set in the politically charged colonial and post-independence Nigeria (as well as the vibrant capitals of Uganda, Sierra Leone and Britain), Egg-Larva-Pupa-Woman explores the vicious cycle of violence, corruption and rejection as well as the triumph of love over fear. Written with passion, poetry and deceptive simplicity, this is a story of womanhood (sisters and daughters, mothers and wives who metamorphose over time) juxtaposed with a nation's fight for freedom, fall from grace and pursuit of an elusive destiny. Egg-Larva-Pupa-Woman: Buy it. Read it. Love it! ***** Product Description: This is a quality hard-cover edition with cloth binding and glossy dust jacket launched in commemoration of Nigeria's Independence Day Anniversary and Black History Month. Author Q&A section features at the end of the story. About The Author: Akubue-Ogbata is a multi-talented writer, speaker and consultant. Amazing book 17 Sep 2010
By NN
Format:Paperback
This is what I call an amazing book. I thought that it was well written, and I was sad when I got to the end. The title says it all. We all go through metamorphosis and it is important to learn to forgive ourselves. I think this was even better written than Half of a Yellow Sun...Do read this book, it will inspire you!

Excellent Novel 3 July 2010
By Ritzy
Format:Paperback
I didnt know what to expect when I started reading the novel. I'm not an avid reader so wasn't expecting to read it so fast. To my surprise I was hooked on the story from start to finish. I just couldnt put it down. I was so enthralled by the characters. Nkiru is an inspiration to all women who face challenges and was able to grow and succeed through harsh times. I didnt want the story to end. I just wanted it to go on and on.

Well done to the author, for capturing such a rich story, full of political historical facts about Nigeria. I look forward to reading more new novels from Ogo Ogbata.
