Product Description

Review

"Effective Writing in Psychology can serve as an introductory guide to students and novice practitioners just learning about the skills required to communicate cogently in the social and behavioral sciences. For more seasoned professionals, the book can function as a ‘quick review’ reference source. Whatever the objective, this is a book worthy of consideration by any person who takes professional writing and speaking seriously.” (Metapsychology Reviews Online)

"A great resources for psychology students and academics alike, and would be useful addition to the book shelf … .A lovely pace and tone engage the reader in what is a rather dry topic and make it a pleasure to read." (Psychologist, December 2008)

“The quotations are not merely amusing or pithy; they effectively set the stage for what follows. The book anticipates both what students want and what they need. Beins and Beins have written a book that is much like Twain: An appealing mix of good humor and sound advice.” (PsycCritiques)

Review

"This is an important book that students will use again and again for classes and for professional development activities to prepare exemplary reports in perfect APA format. Beins and Beins have eliminated the fear/intimidation factor many students experience when they prepare papers!"
Stephen F. Davis, Texas Wesleyan University

"Where was this wonderful, witty, and useful book when I was a struggling psychology major? Kudos to the authors on a splendid job."
Jane S. Halonen, University of West Florida

"Students and teachers of psychology will improve their research and writing if they follow the authors′ practical guidance in this superb book. My advice: Read it and heed it!"
–Charles L. Brewer, Furman University

3.0 out of 5 stars okay 16 Dec 2011
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

This is a required book for a doctoral course I took. Otherwise I never would have purchased it. Pretty much everything in it I learned during my masters degree program, or could have found online in various places for free.

4.0 out of 5 stars Revealing Insights 2 Nov 2013
By Firpo Carr - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Although some parts of this publication essentially duplicates the APA manual (6th ed.), it nevertheless offers revealing insights for the uninitiated. I highly recommend it.

Great reference for writing papers. The section on important questions to answer when writing an annotated bibliography is useful. Also it gives information on how to properly reference resources.

3.0 out of 5 stars Had to buy it, but could live without it. 11 Jun 2014
By Ann Stressman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It was a required text for my class, but I could've done without it. It merely elaborates on the APA manual. If you need a lot of grammar and punctuation background, buy it. Otherwise, get it at the library or find another source. I did use it, but it only helped a little. My use of on-line tutorials gave me more help.
