Most Helpful Customer Reviews

Format: Paperback
Sunil's book has a wealth of content.

The style is unconventional as it is written mostly in bulleted points so it can be scanned quickly which might lead you to wrongly conclude it is lightweight. However if the content is absorbed more slowly, with due reflection then it will help you to focus and become more effective at just about anything, not just GP commissioning.

I must say I sometimes prefer this quick fire 'get to the content' style over books which are padded out with unnecessarily verbose prose. In the space of 170 pages you are presented with all the meat content of Balint, Belbin, Carnegie, Covey, and innumerable other names which we've all heard of but maybe are not clear quite how they want to change us.

The extensive breadth of content is refreshing as it encourages us that Generalism (and being well versed in wide ranging skills) is a virtue - specialism is partialism!

Definitely recommended

This book is aimed at a Group of Professionals who have in general terms no idea what they are being asked to undertake. The contents of this volume are concise and to the point in the many and varied realms of management. I wish this book had been available when I was doing my experience of management the hard way. I was to be involved as a lay member of the public in connection with the set up of local commissioning. This book does include aspects that relate to the medical profession but it is so much more for ALL managers to think about.

I work as a leadership coach within the NHS and within CCGs. This book has already been very useful to me in understanding some of the background to and complexities of GP Commissioning. I also expect it to be very useful to my coaching clients - I've only just received my copy so haven't yet had the chance to try it out with them. The book has a huge amount of information in it as it is written as a mixture of bullet points and short paragraphs. This makes it very useful for quickly grasping the key elements of an issue or activity.
