These fabulous double edge razors are fitted with the latest precision Edwin Jagger DE blade head which has created great interest among experienced wet shavers. The closed comb head is expertly engineered and is finished with high quality chrome plate. The lightweight handle is also finished in high quality chrome plate and sports the Edwin Jagger name imprinted around the collar. Beautifully balanced, the razor is delivered in an Edwin Jagger presentation box and comes with a pack of 5 Derby blades so the razor is 'ready to go'. Overall length of the razor 9.5 cm (3.7 inches), handle length 8.5 cm (3.3 inches).

I converted to DE shaving before using Wilkinson Sword Blades Classic Double-Edged Razor +5 Blades thinking that this value approach was justifiable (and it is). However this beauty is in a different class. It is a little smaller and therefore easier to use. The quality of the workmanship is superb and the shave with the Derby blades brilliant, closer and somehow effortless. The weight is good (not too light), balance great and I like the smooth unlined handle. Highly recommended with a good shaving cream and brush Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream Screw Tread Pot 150gr. It's time consuming but more pleasing than clogged x5 razors. Enjoy

I purchased this razor after some time comparing the reviews on shaving forums of the Edwin Jagger de89bl, various Merkur (mainly the 34c) and the very similar Mühle R89 which uses the same head. The consensus seems to rate the EJ89 as being the best for a beginner, as well as being of excellent build quality.
I am so glad I took the plunge into "old-fashioned" double edged shaving - while it does take a little practise to get the best from it, it is very rewarding to use.
If shaving is a painful or tedious experience, bin the 3, 4, 5 blade cartridge and get one of these.
Warning - don't expect instant perfection- but the learning curve is fun to climb, and there is massive online support for DE (double edge) shavers. Just google for shaving forums. Enjoy!

Good solid safety razor. The handle of the polished chrome version can become a little slippery when wet but it's well balanced and a joy to use.
If you're moving from a multi blade (Mach 3 or whatever) don't expect to be an instant convert - you'll need at least 3-4 shaves practice to get the hang of it.
