This is a well made and superbly finished three-piece design DE Safety Razor equal to the Merkur 34C Heavy Duty.
Both are very highly recommended for beginners.
There are basically three categories of safety razor; Mild Safety Razor, Medium Aggressive Razor and Aggressive Safety Razor. This accommodates different beard and skin types. The vast majority of people including those with sensitive skin like myself can easily use a Medium Aggressive like this DE89 razor or the Merkur 34C.
Most people find a mild safety razor too mild for their beard and can require additional passes of the razor so a typical three pass shave becomes a four or five pass, and could increase the risk of razor burn.
An aggressive razor is harsher on the skin because more blade is exposed so will cut the hair quicker with fewer strokes but greater care is required to reduce risk of nicks and cuts.
This is probably why a medium aggressive razor is so popular amongst shavers.
The Edwin Jagger DE89 is one of the most popular because of the handle length overal weight and ballance.
I strongly suggest you watch mantic59 shave tutor on youtube as there is a different shaving technique required from disposable or cartridge razors.
Top Tip: Good lathering is very important for a comfortable shave get a proper shaving soap not that stuff out of a can, and get a shaving brush and shave with the grain of the hair. Keep your wrist straight don't swivel it, let the weight of the razor do it's job, don't apply pressure.
Take your time shaving, enjoy it, don't rush it.
