I bought this brush rather than others according to the simple expedient of price. Thus when it arrived I was initially unsurprised, but a bit disappointed, that it was rather coarser in texture than I expected. However, having used it for a few weeks now, I have to say that I'm rather a convert. The firmer brush seems to soften my bristles rather more effectively than my previous, softer one, used to. I think I shall try and buy similarly coarse brushes in the future.

I'm slightly alarmed by the previous reviewer that mentioned his brush falling apart, but so far mine shows no sign of doing so!

    [time passes]

Ah! There it is! The bit with the bristles in has indeed fallen out! After a little less than a year.

Still, you know, bit of glue and it's working fine again...

I really noticed a considerable improvement swapping from a synthetic to a pure badger shaving brush. I've been using it for over two months now and loving it's Sumptuous feeling as I apply the lather to my face.

Badger hair is the preferred material for a shaving brush, it has natural water absorbing capability helping to create a great lather. There are basically four grades of badger hair brushes, but there is no industry standard. This is the lowest grade of pure badger hair however it still leaves other pure and mixed bristle brushes behind due to its quality of hair.

The following are some tips for the newbie to natural hair shaving brushes.

    1. It is common for a few hairs from any brush to come out, this usually stops after a month (breaking in period) the knot (resin) of the average shaving brush contains thousands of badger hairs which means that two or three hairs falling out is to be expected from a new brush within the breaking in period and really is a very small percentage.

    2. Another reason hairs may come out is if the water is too hot, this can damage the hairs so Soak the brush in warm water for about a minute or so, any thing less than a minute and the hairs may be too dry and can break especialy when new.

    3. Rinse out thoroughly after use and hang to dry in an open space.

    4. Wash the new shaving brush with a shampoo, preferably an animal shampoo before use, this will help you break in the new brush, and help remove any new brush smell, it's also recomended to do this twice a year to clean and condition the brush to mprove its longevity.

This brush was ok when it first arrived but slowly the brush itself worked its way out of the holder. The gathering cap holding all the bristles has after only two months worked it's way completely free. I have tried gluing this back but the wet conditions do not present an ideal environment for glues. I have now temporarily wrapped some black electrical tape around the "stub" and rammed it back into the plastic holder. Shouldn't have to do this. It wasn't expensive but then again it wasn't cheap either. I expected this to last longer than 2 months-at least 2 years were my expectations on this one. So Edwin Jagger 2/10 here im afraid.

The bulb of resin holding the bristles has fallen out of mine after about a month. I'm not going to return it as it can easily be super glued back in.Its just a poor design. The actually brush itself is alright but its not actually that great value for money once you use a Simpson brush at twice the price and 10x the quality. I don't regret the purchase but Edwin Jagger could do with altering the design a little.

Save your cash and put it toward a decent Simpsons brush which while more expensive will enrich your shaving time and last a hell of a lot longer then this low budget offering.

I last had a Badger Hair Shaving Brush in the Eighties. Since I lost that one I have used Hogs Hair ~ the only one I could find on the High Street Shelf. I thought it was fine until I read a Blog about wet shaving and decided that this was a must. This one is not that pricier than a Hogs Hair one but the difference is immense.

I now look forward to my shaving ~ I also bought a Double Edged Razor to replace the multiple ones we have had foisted onto us ~ for the first time in twenty years. The brush has a lot to do with that. Highly recommended.

And it came very quickly from the suppliers so I am really happy with recommending this item to everyone.

SINCE THE ABOVE WAS WRITTEN: 18 months have passed. Today I noticed that the handle has developed a crack in the plastic. Makes me a little disappointed. Cracks harbour germs - not happy about this. 28 February 2013.

Well made brush, great value. Makes a lovely lather with the soap I use. No real loss of hairs after a couple of weeks everyday use. Highly recommend this brush!

Bought this off Amazon in Dec. 2012 and at the start was very pleased with brush. Having arthritic hands, a brush is a must, along with a wet and dry shaver. After 8 months the bristles are falling out so fast, I have to unclog my shaver every third day. Needless to say, I am very disappointed, even disgusted in the quality of brush. I'm 77 years old and definitely the worst brush I've ever had.
