Book Description

A touching and thought-provoking parable from the brilliant John Burningham that highlights the dangers of judging too quickly

Product Description

Edwardo is an ordinary boy, so sometimes he can be a bit grubby or clumsy, a bit cruel or noisy or rude. The more that he is criticised, the worse he becomes, until one day they call him ‘The Horriblest Boy in the Whole Wide World’. Just then, Edwardo’s luck begins to change, and a series of chance events reveal that really he is a lovely boy, and has been all along.

Horriblest boy ? 27 Dec 2009
Format:Hardcover
This was recommended by a newly qualified teacher and certainly met all requirements - showing that often we attain just what is expected. A lovely moral story, at a bargain price and superbly efficient delivery! Thank you.

I'm a teacher in training. In my final block practice I was placed with another student for a bit, so we alternated between literacy and numeracy.

On the plus side it meant half the work. On the negative side it meant that I was landed with John Burningham as my author because my colleague chose him the week prior.

I don't dislike Burningham. His illustrations are lovely and The Shopping Basket has some scope, but generally his books don't have a great deal of substance (for example, Mr Gumpy - ergh).

I managed to milk TSB for all it was worth, but when I had to teach 'change in a character over time' I was stumped. Thank god for this book is all I can say.

Basically a boys character changes because of the way he is treated. It isn't War and Peace, but it did the job. There are better books for children on this subject and it is probably better suited as a cautionary tale for parents or teachers.

great book about changing behavior for kids 12 Nov 2007
By Karyn W - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Edwardo gets a reputation and decides to live up to it. When his reputation starts changing from being horrible to starting to look positive his outlook changes a little bit and he makes the effort. I like how this book has some real truths to it and comes across in a clever and rather unique way. I like the theme to the book, but unfortunately I didn't really like the illustrations. They are sort of sloppy and not very detailed.

How can such a bad boy change his ways? 10 July 2007
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
John Burningham's EDWARDO: THE HORRIBLEST BOY IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD tells of a boy who is always disappointing adults. He's the clumsiest, noisiest, nastiest, and dirtiest boy in the world - and he lives up to every accusation. How can such a bad boy change his ways? Possibly by doing something nice, by mistake.
