Not a useful addition to Edward Weston literature. 5 April 2013
By grant dinsmore - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This volume is one of many that would serve to introduce readers to the photographs of Edward Weston, but contains little that would inform one already familiar with his work. It's a nicely produced general overview of his output, containing most of his standards and some works not seen as often. The images are somewhat smaller than Weston's 8" X 10" format and are printed in semi-gloss, whereas the bulk of Westons prints were produced in glossy surface for a more brilliant tonal range. Each image is accompanied by the artist's quote relevant to the subject. These range from informative technical and aesthetic remarks to his frequent narcissistic ones, the latter wearing thin after awhile. (As his wife Charis said, Weston was given to hyperbole.) There is a four-page biographical introduction for those not already familiar with his place in photographic history. Weston has long since been accorded a high ranking in photographic history, with the result that there are a number of volumes now extant that are far superior to this one both in content and reproduction, and are presently available at similar prices. It's a nice gift book for the uninitiated, otherwise skip this one.

Edward Weston Photographs 2 Mar 2014

Weston is an excellent photographer. His pictures are unusual, interesting, and require more than a casual "look through" to be fully appreciated. People interested in photography and art would enjoy viewing and owning this book.

Beautiful photos. A very well assembled collection of important photographs. It may not be more than looking at stunning art but it is worth the time.

A masterpiece 29 Aug 2013

Edward Weston, one of the most important photographs of all time deserves a book like this. Big pages, with big photos, excellent quality of printing and personal notes on every picture.
