Light, and lively 24 Feb 2010
Listening last year to a music program on Radio New Zealand's National Program, they played the delightful Dances from the Music to Shakespeare's Henry VIII. This music was played by The new Symphony Orchestra of Lon-don, conducted by Victor Olof. I just could not get the "Shepherd's Dance" out of my head. Imagine my delight when I found we had it (the same re-cording) on an old Decca Lp here-- the "Pastoral Dance" from "Nell Gwyn" is there, as well.

Anyway, I wanted to here more Sir Edward's music, and Amazon came to the rescue with this disc. Now, this is one of my all-time favourite record-ings. If you purchase this disc you will find all the music on it very enjoyable. Sir Edward certainly knew how to write good music -- it was not for nothing that he was much admired by Sir Edward Elgar, and Sir Arthur Sullivan. Only the "Shepherd's Dance" mentioned earlier is played a little too slow for my taste. Otherwise the rest is pure gold. Throw in an an excellent booklet and you have a winner.

Highly recommended, particularly at Amazon's price.

A must for the Edward German fan. The orchestra is superb, as is the clarity.A welcome addition to the music shelf for any lover of British Light Music.
