Product Description

Intended as a guideline for teachers of yoga to children based on the experience of the various authors who have taught yoga to children in widely differing environments for a considerable number of years. The book indicates some of the requirements of children of different age groups, abilities and disabilities, as well as some of the constraints imposed by the teaching environments. Furthermore, the book presents some of ways that teachers have adapted general yoga practices to suit their own specific requirements and constraints.

Excellent value 25 May 2011
Format:Paperback
I bought this book while studying to be a children's yoga teacher. The book is excellent, good illustrations and explanations, and I really like the author's language. You can tell that he knows what he is talking about and it is straight forward, no unnessesary "coloring".
The first chapters about children's emotional disorders and how yoga can help to balance these are especially worth noticing. There is a great chapter about pranayama for children too, as well as relaxation. It goes in depth and explains underlying physical conditions.

I would recommend that anyone that does yoga with children read this book.

Outstanding 27 May 2010

This should be a book on every modern day psychologists and parents bookself. Not only is it highly informative and the work here well researched, we have reached a point where it has become necessary. Satyananda and the other contributors here, all teachers, medical doctors and psychologists themseves have compiled a text, through their many years of experimentation, note taking and so forth revealing the true nature of each generations children and how the parent/child relationship has been strangled. How our education system will continually fail generations to come if an evolution does not occur, immediately. Also, the effects of Hatha Yoga that have been proven the world over and in some cases in different generations. Reading this book has opened the door more on the study of the Human Being to me, because at one point in all of our lives, we are all children, we have all felt the strangle hold of our parents, schooling system and societies at large. Instead of looking at the child as an extension of ourselves, we must start to look at them as individuals because that is who they are. When we fix this problem, a great many other problems will be fixed.

This is an indepth look at the child as Human, as soul/spirit, as a creature of this planet, as individual, which we as parents fail to do when we have children. We forget that they have feelings, imposing rules and laws upon them before they are born that stagnate them for the rest of their lives. With this book, the parent can take control, in a positive way, to help bring their child into being one with themselves, taking resposibility for their actions while young and into their adult lives. With the proper tools, a child/persons mind can change, develop and evolve naturally. Not only for the childs sake is this book a must, but for the parents. There are many parents who have taken the role of the child either conciously or sub concoiusly. And a proved the best way to teach and restore harmony is through action. You can lead a child to household duties, but if you do not show them they will never know. This applies in life. Education starts in the home and parents are the first teachers we will ever have. Start with this book and an open mind on change, through Yoga. It works.

As I have mentioned, included here is a well explained, scientific text on how Yoga works to change the person on the deeper levels (mentally, emotionally, etc), many factual cases and in the rear of the book many practices that can be done for and with the child to help them. If you are not a practitioner of yoga, then a yoga studio is a great place to start. I recommend all parents to also try their hand at yoga and never force a child. If you show them, they will follow. Namaste.
