I am a great admirer of Willy Russels work in general but this has to be his best play of all time. Educating Rita consists of only two characters throughout, Frank and Rita. We follow through the life of the characters from somewhat comic moments to the utter tragic. Willy Russel has a fantastic grasp on the society of the time and prooves that knowledge can be a strong tool. Knowing everthing does not make your life better but having the ability to decide for yourself "with confidence and knowledge" enables you to control your fate in someway no matter how small.

Educating Rita 10 Feb 2011
By Lynny
Format:Hardcover
Educating Rita is about a Liverpudlian woman and about her drive to get an education that she didn't take seriously before. This new aspiration to recieve the education she needs to pass an exam to make it into the Open University causes tension between her relationships and starts up a new friendship. I enjoyed this book as it is witty and full of humour, yet it holds a valuable meaning that becomes clearer and clearer within the book.

I found a very short excerpt of this screenplay in an old GCSE exam paper, at a writing class I was attending, and there were tears of laughter streaming down my face.
Pure gold. Five stars. No problem.
