I cannot recommend this disc highly enough. The sound is excellent, clearer, sharper and better than almost any other live recording I have ever heard.
Recorded during his April 2000 tour with Ani Difranco the song selection covers most of his solo career and also features 3 previously unreleased songs. His inbetween song dialogue is hilarious and you even get a free comic book written and drawn by Ed Hamell himself !
His voice rings out above his machinegun guitar on many tracks and then blends with it for songs like "Some Hearts",a brilliant new song of compassion and understanding. The 3 tracks from "Choochtown" are superb and one even features Ani Difranco on drums.
I guess I should point out that his language is definately for adults only. But then again the themes of the songs are adult orientated as well.
This recording works on many levels all at once
there's humour, sadness, great stories and rockin' good music. It feeds the mind, the heart and the soul.Whilst your feet tap, your body sways and your head nods. What more can I say except Buy this you owe it to yourself.
My only criticism is IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A DOUBLE CD

There are 2 excellent totally realized songs on this CD: '7 Seas' and 'Big As Life'. But Hamell seems to think it's necessary to have novelty tracks like 'I Hate Your Kid', as troughs to lead to the peaks, for the peaks to hit hard. I think he's doing himself down. 'Choochtown'is brilliant of course but the live version here is slapdash compared to the original. The song to his mother is nice but a waste of space compared to the couple of brilliant songs. The John Lennon one is quite good but little more than an anecdote. I believe Hamell can produce a truly great album but only when he refuses to compromise. He compromises again and again on this album but two superb tracks show what he's capable of. I'm not sure though if he himself knows which are his good ones and which are throwaways.

Hamell's the man! 20 July 2004
Format:Audio CD
Since Bill Hicks was taken from us 10 years ago, I've been looking for someone to fill that void left by his passing. OK, not easy I hear you say but Hamell comes extremely close with his wonderful humour and powerful, moving songs.
I recently saw Hamell live and I can honestly say, I don't think you could ever capture his energy and passion on CD. BUT his stuff is still incredible, do yourself a favour - buy this now.
