Martha ARGERICH was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina). She began her first piano lessons at the age of five with Vincenzo Scaramuzza. Considered a child prodigy, she soon performs in public. In 1955, she moved to Europe and continued her studies in London, Vienna and in Switzerland with Seidlhofer, Gulda, Magaloff, Mrs Lipatti and Stefan Askenase. Performances to enjoy 13 Jan 2012

Maybe not the ideal recordings of each piece- so only four stars, but that really isn't the point. If you know some of the works, or just have a feel for the genre this set feels like real concerts, not some exercise in getting through the score. These are living performances not fossilised works, indeed the repetition of some works in no way detracts from the appeal of the set. I confess that before I had even played the whole set I ordered the solos and duos one.

Absolutely a jewel!!!

2 Reasons to give the box the 5 stars rating!!!

1.- Outstanding chamber music .- obviously this is not a music for everyone. It's for "connoisseurs"
2.- Live performances - I always loved the "live recordings" I think they are more realistic than studio ones. You can feel the tension and power of the players.. fortunately the final clapping haven't be omitted as usual..

Conclusion: Hours of pleasure listening chamber music: Well recorded and better played...and very cheap too

This collection of chamber music, some familiar but much of it not, is a fantastic pleasure to listen to -- repeatedly. Martha Argerich is so much a part of playing each piece and choosing her colleagues that her name is always absent from the credits! She suffuses the whole.
