Product Description

Thriller starring Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey. Corruption is the law of the land in the American every-town of Edison, and the only soul brave enough to peer into the fire and face the wrath of an entire squad of corrupt cops is a fresh-faced journalist, Joshua Pollack (Justin Timberlake). However, when Pollack misjudges the depth of the authoritative decay and his girlfriend is hospitalised following a brutal attack by the alliance of crooked cops known as F.R.A.T., he soon decides to take action and prove that even those who believe themselves to be above the law still aren't beyond its reach.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Just Don't Get it 3 Feb 2009
Format:DVD
WARNING: Possible Spoilers

First off, I don't have a clue why this movie rates so low everywhere. Honestly, I don't understand it whatsoever. Okay, so it's not Oscar worthy, potential classic or mind-bendingly original, but it's certainly not as bad as everyone seems to be making out.

I've read reviews claiming that Timberlake's performance is the worst they've ever seen. Seriously, they couldn't have seen much bad acting if that's what they think. It's competent and believable, void of any awkwardness that some films are plagued with through lack of chemistry and/or generally bad performances.

I swear I must've seen a completely different film to everyone else. Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey have quite pivotal roles with plenty of screentime, by no means minor characters, and their acting isn't as low-rate as everyone's making out. This film is very plot and suspense driven, despite the lack of plot revelations and in-your-face action (although there is some of that at the end).
I've also read of action sequence plotholes such as Timberlake's character, although never having fired a gun before, fires it perfectly, and when he runs out of ammo, 2 more cartridges appear from nowhere - Timberlake's character holds an uzi for about 2 seconds and he never fires it. LL Cool J's character never has any moments of magical ammo, although the one man against an entire police department is a little far-fetched.

All-in-all, it's actually nowhere near as bad as people keep making out. Give it a try before you knock it.

3.0 out of 5 stars What a Mess 26 Jan 2007
Format:DVD
This movie could have been something quite good, the premise a young journalist good but lazy stumbles on a plot that includes the city of Edison's F.R.A.T (First Response Armed Tatical)police squad who are acting as their own judge and jury killing criminals and confiscating their drugs and money to keep for themselves.

The journalist then realizes when at the trial of a drug dealer when one of the officers 'thanks'the officer for not letting get a murder rap that he realises something is fishy he then gets into a deeper mess when he is attacked and his girlfriend seriously injured in an attack that basically tells him to 'back off'.

The story is a mess with some of the most bizarre casting in a long old while no wonder this big budget movie went straight to DVD and bypassed cinemas entirely in this country.Fine actors such as Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey are wasted in supporting roles while strictly C-List talent like Dylan Mcdermott and John Heard are given major roles in which they dont shine at all.

Justin Timberlake in his first film role as the rookie journo is actually not that bad and LL Cool J as the FRAT officer who breaks the whole sorry mess up is ok as well ,the director who has a major background in news and political media fumbled the ball in the dramatic arena ,overall a disappointment and one of those movies you would take only if your first couple of choices were all out at the video store.

2.0 out of 5 stars ALL STAR CAST FAIL TO SHINE 25 Jun 2007
Format:DVD
On the cover you thought it could be a good film with the all star cast, but it lacked that cutting edge. L L Cool J was ok, Morgan Freeman played the same role he has done for the last 4 or 5 films the wise old man that has been there done it got the T- shirt which he does so well. Mr Timberlake should stick to singing he was very wooden but with a little coaching he could do ok. As for Kevin Spacey I think he must of had a free afternoon in his dairy didn't do a great deal. Dylan McDermott took the honours for his role he was very good. There was some action a few shootouts but as I have said it just lacked that bite to keep you interested. In all if you see it cheap it's worth a watch but it does not deserve a slot in my DVD collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing!
Same old story - dirty cops. But this time... poor script (or cliche from a few other films), no director and paper characters. Waste of time.
