Product Description

Product Description

EW-7612PIn is a wireless PCI Express adapter that provides a simple and easy way to add or upgrade wireless connectivity to your desktop. This wireless PCI Express adapter supports higher data rates up to 300Mpbs when connected to a wireless 802.11n device. You can also connect to any public wireless hotspot for Internet access to retrieve email, surf web sites or use instant messaging. EW-7612PIn gives you the freedom to join the network.

Complies with wireless 802.11b/g/n standards with data rates up to 300Mbps

With the latest wireless 802.11n technology, EW-7612PIn can increase coverage up to 4 times more and reduce "dead spots" within the wireless range. The transmission data rate can reach up to 300Mbps when connected to wireless 802.11n devices, making signals travel farther and wireless connections guaranteed when compared to a standard wireless 802.11b/g network.

First-class Reliability

The EW-7612PIn’s exceptional chipset offers increased bandwidth and more functionality than other standard PCI network adapters. The adapter is specifically designed to carry the full bandwidth capacity of the PCI Express bus of 2.5Gpbs, thus eliminating collisions and latencies that exist with current 32- and 64-bit PCI bus architectures.

Wireless Security

EW-7612PIn supports 64-/128-bit WEP data encryption that protects your wireless network from eavesdropping. It also supports WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) features that combine IEEE 802.1x and TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) technologies. Furthermore, this adapter supports WPA2 and WPS functions, with WPA2 providing a stronger encryption mechanism through AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), which is a requirement for some corporate and government users. Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a standard for easy and secure establishment of a wireless network. EW-7612PIn supports software with WPS-compatible configurations. When both ends of the wireless connection use wireless solutions with WPS, it automatically configures the wireless network with robust WPA data encryption and authentication.

Supports multi-language EZmax setup wizard

The included 16-language EZmax setup wizard and friendly UI will walk you through configuring EW-7612PIn to your wireless network.

* The EZMax Setup CD Wizard only supports Edimax wireless Series

5.0 out of 5 stars Very solid wifi card 5 May 2011
Verified Purchase
I bought this to replace TP-Link TL-WN851N Wireless N PCI Adapter, which I had problems with.

I'm very happy with it. My range is significantly improved over my old card, the drivers seem to be much better too (I can actually connect to an 802.11n network at wireless N speeds now!), and the latency has dropped a lot as well, making it a much better wifi card to use for gaming online.

I've seen a few reviews below criticising the card for not delivering the speeds they were hoping for. Firstly, it is a little cheeky to not list the Tx speed as 150mbps. But in fairness, you'll never actually achieve 300mbps coming in. With any connection, quite a lot of the bandwidth goes into the overheads needed to send data. Even a cabled ethernet connection, running at 100mbps, will in reality only deliver about 80mbps actual transfer speeds because the remaining 20mbps is required to make the connection work. There are similar overheads involved in wireless transfer rates too. Now throw in potential interferences (other wifi networks, walls, electrical equipment etc.) and you begin to realise that speeds will tend to diminish in normal circumstances.

Wireless-G claims to get 54mbps, but I've never seen any card of mine get above 20mbps. Similarly, this card has given me an output of 70mbps, which I think is pretty good.

Overall, I think this is a solid purchase, and I think some of the negativity in other reviews owes as much to false expectations as anything. If you really need super fast speeds, try using 1Gbps ethernet or maybe the plug-in ethernet options out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent item which works great. 21 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase
Ordered through Amazon and received quickly. Put into my PC straight away. I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and it picked it up straight away. Installed the drivers and its working great. Getting excellent signal strength, maximum bars on 802.11g. My PC is under a desk against a solid brick wall at the back of the house. My wireless router is in my lounge behind my TV at the front of the house. I was considering buying a extendable antenna but no need for it. Recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing 11 July 2012
By P.J.
I had high hopes for this NIC given the other reviews and the competitive price.

I bought from kikatech so this section may be slightly less relevant. Delivery was good, arrived in a couple of days and customer support got my refund back quickly and without hassle. Only reason I bought it from them is because its product price + shipping was the lowest online at the time.

Edimax's customer service, however, was less than impressive and it took me several attempts before I got a reply from them and even then they couldn't source my problem.

I tried installing the card to each PCIe slot and waggled the antennae about, installed the latest drivers from the edimax website and even moved my PC around to see if the steel chassis was messing the signal. Whatever I tried, the signal just wouldn't stay connected to my router and forget about 300mbps for the few seconds it did connect. I mean when you can't even open Google in the time it takes to lose the connection again you know something's going wrong.

Anyway I bought a TP Link TL-WDN4800 450Mbps Wireless N Dual Band PCI Express Adapter for a few more quid and I've had no problems with that. I don't see why companies can't just make products that fill out their basic primary functions in the first place without having to shell out for a replacement.

Excellent next day delivery with prime. Windows now reports full strength signal, old adapter would get 2-3 bars. Reporting a 48 mbit connection, compared with the 11 I was getting. Running windows 7 64 bit.

Replaced a Netgear WPN311 because I became frustrated with software problems associated with the WPN311 that I was unable to resolve, with an Edimax EW-7612PIN 300Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI-E Adapter with 3dBi High-Gain Detachable Antennas. Followed the installation instructions and worked with no problems from the start. Performance with Windows XP Pro 32-bit rock solid and no software problems such as I had with the Netgear WPN311. Good signal strength and connection speed. A bonus is that installing it in a PCI-E slot has freed up a PCI slot. Recommended.

Addendum: Have since attempted to run this device under Windows 8 Pro using latest software (Win 7), although it runs, I found it doesn't like my new Windows 8 PC and caused it to restart every time I booted it up, although after the restart is worked fine. Very strange.I have now replaced it with a different brand which works well with Windows 8.

i'm experiencing network issues on the odd time but im not entirely sure if that is the wireless cards fault or if it is elsewhere (and i think i remember experiencing the same issue with my ethernet cable).
