This book is written and illustrated by experts. It has colour drawings, photographs, excellent descriptions and at 21cmx13cm is a good size to use as a field guide. As well as the edible fungi it has a section on the poisonous ones and some recepies to try after a hard day collecting. The only thing it doesn't tell you is where the edible fungi are. But that's a secret we all keep!!!

A book we have used for years. We gave it to some Russian friends who love collecting and eating wild mushrooms. They are delighted

There was a plethora of mushrooms and other fungi in my local area this year, so I bought this little book to identify the edible ones and supplement our larder. The book is terrific in that the photos and drawings are accurate, and the descriptions are comprehensive. However, after being informed how to recognise the edible fungi, the next information wisely points to the inedible and toxic ones. They are so closely alike that I am still confused and dare not collect any. So, no harm to the environment from me then. A good informative book and I recommend it highly.

This was bought as a small gift for my companion following a recent trip to France and seeing lots of wild mushrooms being picked and eaten. The book was liked and well received

I have a number of identification books on mushrooms and have recorded fungi for many years. I decided to buy a book specifically on edible fungi and chose "Easy Edible Mushroom Guide".
The book is interesting and a mine of useful information. Condensed sections on the actions of poisons, irritants and hallucinogens are absorbing and invite the reader to find out more.
Identification notes, diagrams and photographs are generally sufficient for identification, although cap colours in a few cases could be more accurate.
The most poisonous species are represented by carefully chosen photographs although I find the "Death Cap" photograph unconvincing as it lacks accurate colouring.
Nevertheless, I recommend this book to those interested in eating fungi other than common mushrooms, and I now know why I suffered for a while after eating raw wood blewits!
