Product Description

Review

"Great follow up to Shadow's Edge. Geissinger creates strong female leads who take responsibility for their actions and are willing to put their lives on the line for those they love. ... While romance is dominant in the story it didn't take over and there was a plot full of little surprises that made for an all-round great read." --Book Chick City, 4 stars

Format: Paperback Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This paranormal romance is a fast paced, passionate read that outdoes book 1 "Shadow's Edge" for one reason; the heroine. Unlike Jenna, new leading lady Morgan is a full blood Ikati. Although restricted throughout her life due to her sex, Morgan is a force to be reckoned with who wields more power than most of her shape shifter brethren. At the start of this book she has a brief stay of execution; yet to atone for her treacherous actions in book 1, she has 2 weeks to find their enemies the Expurgari. On the plus side she'll be based in Rome. The down side; she has a top assassin glued to her hip. The plus side; she finds Xander dangerously attractive. Another negative; he has orders to kill her in 2 weeks if she fails in her mission.

The camaraderie between Xander and his tight knit group of assassin friends is very reminiscent of the "Black Dagger Brotherhood" (JR Ward) or the "Dark-hunters" (Sherrilyn Kenyon). Add in a feisty leading lady who is prepared to make a last stand and grab every moment of life she can if she is destined to die so soon, and the quips run as heavy as the action. The romance is very heated, plus the dynamics between Morgan and Xander; as they initially try to deny their attraction to each other as he may have to kill her, are interesting. JTG is proving to be an author to watch out for, for fans of paranormal romance featuring kick*ss characters, a roller coaster plot and some great interaction and situations.

Morgan has admitted to being guilty of one of the most serious crimes a member of the Ikati can commit, her act of treason led their mortal enemies right to their door and ended with the kidnapping and torture of her queen. There is only one punishment for such a serious crime - the death penalty - and Morgan is just waiting for her sentence to be carried out. But at the very last minute Queen Jenna offers Morgan the chance to redeem herself, if she can track down the headquarters of the Expurgari then she will be allowed to live. The Expurgari have remained successfully hidden for centuries though so finding them now isn't going to be easy. Morgan won't be working alone on this mission, she is going to have the company of assassin Xander and his task is to kill Morgan if she fails to complete her mission. Can Morgan succeed in her mission before Xander is forced to carry out his own?

I really enjoyed Shadow's Edge so couldn't wait to get started on Edge of Oblivion. As much as I didn't agree with the actions that Morgan took in the previous book I did find it easy to see why desperation led her to take such drastic measures. The Ikati are a very male oriented race, the women are cosseted, protected and loved but they are expected to marry young and start breeding as soon as possible. They aren't expected to become warriors or to want to leave the safety of their compound. Some of the females in the clan may be happy to accept being looked after by the alpha males who surround them but Morgan has always wanted more. She wants to be free to make her own choices, to explore the world and to live her life as she chooses.

A unique and intelligently written second novel. Geissinger writes with such clarity and attention to detail she actually draws me into the pages of the novel leaving me feeling like I'd lived the story along side the characters. I can't think of a nicer way to escape reality for a few hours and I am waiting in eager anticipation for her third book.

I read both the books in this series and I really cant wait for no3...... J T Geissinger has real talent, she writes with a great deal of depth and the romance although integral to the plot is not the be all and end all, she reminds me of Ilona Andrews, who is my fave author in this genre, so that cant be a bad thing... Highly recommended.

So after the drama of Morgan in the first book (Shadow's Edge), I was anxious to see how this would work out. First and foremost, I hated that Morgan would so willingly betray her people and yes, she had good reason. But to let an enemy capture and torture/kill someone for one individual's freedom - that is selfish.

Anyway the story picks up a few weeks after the half-breed Queen is announced and Morgan is facing death for her treachery. As a deal with the Queen, if she can go to Rome and figure out who the enemy is and kill them, she will be pardoned and set free to live as she wishes. Sure she only has two weeks to find a secret, organised cult but she has to do it with an Assassin, Xander, at her side otherwise he will be the one to kill her when the time is up.

What could make her journey even more harder? If she actually happened to fall in love with him!

Xander is cold, not necessarily unfeeling but he's a man with a task to do. Find the enemy, kill them or kill the girl. He has faced his own demons on the path of life and he cannot foresee a happy life for himself. Until Morgan tests him with her rebellious attitude.

I personally loved that Xander understood what it is was like for Morgan and that she matured as a person to care for more than herself. It was also a lovely introduction to a new set of Ikati who have been blinded/lied to for over a thousand years and I can't wait to see what happens next!
