Not detailed enough 21 July 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Being a home-schooling parent whose children study IGCSE as opposed to the usual GCSE specification used in schools, I was thrilled when I finally found a textbook written specifically for IGCSE.

Unfortunately, I have not found this book to be of much help: it gives the reader a basis to work from, but it is not detailed enough.

The sample questions and answers look for the student to respond with no further input, and no follow up comments or answers to let them know that they are on track.

Fortunately, for me, my daughter is a whiz at English, and dissects any piece of literature with ease, but if you are not literally minded then this textbook is not going to be of much help.

The Active Book disc is a helpful extra, as it includes the option of listening to a narrator reading the anthology pieces, although the disc was a little noisy in my disk drive, but then most educational disks that I have used are.

I was recommended this text by my tutor, as an adult student pursuing an international GCSE, this book is very useful as a reference. It contains the entire Anthology, examples of a good exam answer, comments from the examiner to improve your language skills and much- much more. It comes with a handy CD for extra practice too. It is expensive to purchase, but is worth it.
