Product Description

Review

They are fantastic and the best on the market for the course. Nothing else comes close as it is neither too dense nor too scant. (Amy Hawkes (HOD) at Myton School)

This really is the essential textbook for A2 year Geography. It is absolutely fantastic for case studies - covering a large range. It seems quite expensive but over 400 pages long plus a glossary, which is great for proper definitions, and an easy-to-use index

I use it more as a revision guide but it covers absolutely everything you need to know, which gives you a lot of confidence and puts you on the right track for revision.

To study my Geography A2 course this year I used this book alongside:

- The Oxford University Press 'Parrot Book' and
- The Red (official) Edexcel book by Byrne et al

I would say that this book is the best of the three, firstly owing to it's clarity. It is very easy to understand and explains concepts well. Further, concepts are often well exemplified - For unit 3 anyway.

For Unit 4, however, it is not so comprehensive, yet neither are the other books. The oxford univesity press book has almost no information on unit 4 and the Edexcel book has a similar amount of information on the unit 4 topic. Therefore, this book and the edexcel book are equally as good for unit 4.

I would say though, in a few areas this book does lack a little detail. I strongly believe that for this course you should not rely on one book as each book lacks detail in some sections. Using two books or more helps to solve these problems.

Overall, the book is excellent and has been a pleasure to learn from - perhaps use alongside one of the other two books though!

If the amount of detail the book goes into isn't enough there are even websites provided for further reading
I've not done my Unit 4 yet but i assume other books will be needed for detail, but for Contested Planet it's great for all 6 topics

It's an attractive book, lots of graphics and colours which engage the reader and give information in a variety of different ways. It's quite nicely written and the level is about right - it could provide a bit more complexity on some issues but generally well pitched.

One thing that did worry me slightly was in the energy section (chapter 1), where it claims that the middle east exports about 15,000 barrels of oil a day. I'm not an expert by any means but even I can tell that's WAY off the mark. A quick search shows that Saudi Arabia produces something like 10,000,000 barrels per day on it's own, of which, of course it exports the majority. I'm starting to think they must have meant 15,000,000 barrels a day, so only a factor of 1,000 out!

This is a fantastic textbook. The information given is much clearer and detailed than the Oxford press book (the 'bird book'). This is a great textbook for anyone going for higher levels as in some cases it goes beyond the information you really need to know but in a very relevant and helpful way.
I found it very easy to use and so helpful for teaching the a-level to myself.
The only problems I had with it was that it had only a small amount of review questions and no practice exam questions.
Would definately recommend!

I bought this for my daughter who is doing A levels before the January exams on the recommendation of her tutor. It's very well laid out and has a number of case studies which are required reading for the essay questions. She brought her mark up from C to A. Would recommend.

This textbook contains all the information you need to pass Unit 3 although not so great for unit 4 as lacks sufficient case studies. Good use of images and headings that relate to the syllabus.
