I am a teacher in a comprehensive school. We have been using this book for around a year and are generally very impressed with it. Each book comes with a CD in the back, which is the entire book in an ActiveBook format. The examples, etc can all be zoomed in on, the vocabulary is all explained, the exercises are well graded and if used on the computer on the CD, the answers are given at the click of a button. However, the answers are NOT in the back of the book and the biggest downside is that the CD was designed to run under Windows 98 and runs very happily under Windows XP, BUT, it will not run at all under Windows VISTA. So, DON'T buy it if you are hoping to run the CD with Vista. Otherwise, if you have an older version of Windows, I'd thoroughly recommend it.

This seemed the perfect book for an adult of a certain age who wanted to refresh her knowledge of maths. The CD apparently included the answers to the set questions, so one could test oneself and check progress. Well no. The CD contains the answers to some questions, but not the ones from past papers at the end of the chapters.

I cannot describe the rage I felt when I discovered this. I feel totally misled.

This book is for people who have regular access to a teacher, not adults who wish to 'teach themselves'. That and the failure to upgrade for Vista users means that this text may frustrate as much as educate.

This is an excellent book. The only problem with it that it is hard to run the CD on windows 7 or 8. Only recently I discovered that all the answers is on the CD in PDF format. If you cannot run it just open the cd and choose 'content' and 'ts'. All the answers are there. :-)

I was told to buy this book by my tutor at college (as it is the book we are working from in class) and I'm very disappointed by the book.

My 1st, and major, complaint about the book is that the answers are not in the book. To get the answers to the exercises you have to use the accompanying CD. But you won't find the answers as one long list, you have to click on each individual question and click "show answers"! This makes it very hard to check your own answers. Just to make the problem worse there are no answers, I repeat "NO ANSWERS", for Chapter Review questions so how is someone working through the book going to know if they have got it right or wrong!!!

So I have a suggestion to the makers of the book, either put all the answers in the back of the book or ditch the book completely and have a fully interactive CD with questions and all the answers.

My 2nd complaint is that not all the explanations are clear. If it were not for the fact that I have a tutor also explaining it, I wouldn't be able to work through the book on my own.

The only good thing I can say about the book is that it has lots of exercises for you to do and it has a review at the end of each chapter (although no answers for the review) so there is lots to reinforce what you are learning.
