Okay you NEED to have this book if your studying A level Chinese. You will never be able to get through all the work in the book in class alone, you do need to spend a lot of time out of college going through the different questions in the book.
Although the book is important it is REALLY annoying, for two reasons -- the first is that it is (as is the whole course) aimed at the native speaker (which makes it incredibly hard for the non-native speaker), and the second is that the print is so small (as it is in the AS book) that one has to lean over the book and read it so close up that it gives you eye strain and gave me so much back ache that I decided I needed to scan the book and load it on to a computer so that I could zoom in on the very small text.

This book is recommended by the Chinese school my step daughter attends as far as I know it covers the syllabus well and is as enjoyable as a lesson book can be.

This book is a very useful book for A2 level. A2 level is a slight jump from AS level, the jump not as great as from GCSE to AS level. This book provides in depth study into the culture and history of China, you will gain a greater understanding of China's customs and why it is considered to be a greater superpower in the 21st century. It also explores the problems that China along with many wealthy countries face; growing population, human rights etc. The articles you are to study are varied to keep up the interest of the student. Each chapter features keywords which to survive this A2 level, is adamant that you learn otherwise you will not understand a thing in the book, however eager you are to learn about Chinese. It also features an practise essay. However there are no aural or speaking exercises, you must do them by your self. Watching Chinese television help a lot when studying for Chinese A2 level. Good luck.
