Product Description

Eddie Izzard lives in a wibbly-wobbly little world of his own. It is a world where animals converse, elephants ski, fruit plots to take over the world and daleks do the plumbing. This live show is taken from his sell-out 1997 tour and features none of the above subjects, but many things like them. Ermm... yeah... groovy.

From Amazon.co.uk

In Glorious, Eddie Izzard's stand-up routine takes a little bit of Robin Williams, a little bit of Jerry Seinfeld, even a little bit of Bob Newhart, but the final mix is absolutely his own and dizzily funny. It's not so much the subjects of his humour--though not many comics make jokes about classical mythology or evil giraffes--as it is the way he fluidly skips from thing to thing in a madcap free-associative whirl. He lulls you by seeming casual and almost sloppy, but when he needs to be precise his gestures and mimicry are razor sharp. There have been a million tired jokes made about trying to get a shower to stay at the right temperature, but Izzard manages to make even that funny. He's even funnier when he's imitating Sean Connery as Noah, trying to convince God that a speedboat would make a much better photo opportunity than an ark, or playing a beekeeper flirting with someone passing on the street. Much of the giddiness comes from his astounding sense of spontaneity. Half the show seems to have been made up on the spot, and if it wasn't, your mind boggles wondering how he could have possibly written something so ridiculous and yet appropriate. Though he uses a number of four-letter words, his humour is surprisingly clean, and even the most frank vulgarities seems like a bit of impish innocence coming out his mouth. Glorious indeed. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Eddie is a comic genius. In this dvd he takes you through from the beginning of time, through the Book of Revelations, right back to present day. Highlights have to include the Evil Giraffe, The Grim Reaper trying to get more up-to-date, James Mason as God, Sean Connery as Noah, and my personal favourite with the beekeeper, "And he said, Aaaagh I'm covered in bees!"

This dvd can be watched many times over, and really it just gets better with each viewing. It is Eddie's over the top observational routine that set him apart from the rest...well, that and watching him tottering around in high heels and a shiny Jean Paul Gaultier suit! Simple stuff, yet highly effective and universally accessible.

However, there is an extra bonus with the dvd. 'Lust For Glorious', a spoof promotional piece supposed to be helping him 'break' the American market. This is where Eddie is told he has been born in France, or that is what his audience in America must believe. Following this announcement, the viewer gets taken on a tour of a small French village with Eddie making up stories of his childhood, which seem to include an awful lot of getting his head stuck in things! And then there is the sex, and rock and roll behaviour to follow....

Overall, this dvd is extremely watchable, on your own, or with friends. It will make you laugh a lot, so prepare for a good belly workout from this one.

This was the first Eddie Izzard stand-up routine that I had the fortune to see live, and from start to finish for 2 hours I did not stop laughing (at one point it actually became painful). Like most of his DVD's the comedy is very surreal, but it is this daft-surrealism that makes him so unique and of course the funniest comic out there.
Highlights for me include Achilles and his Achilles heel (the irony!), the tyranny of ducks (what exactly is an evil duck?) and of course "I'm covered in bees". It should also be pointed out that this performance does also contain the worlds greatest chat-up line..."You fancy a coffee? Because I like my coffee like I like my women...in a plastic cup"

The first thing you have to say about Eddie Izzard is he is the one of the funniest stand-ups around. This example of his work is one of the best and i would rate the writing and delivery of his performance as 'superb'. In this show the plot is very simple...The Old Testement, The New Testement and the Book of Revelations. Eddie's version of the Bible is very comical and historical events are included in the show as well.
He is a comical genius and if you are a stand-up fan this is a must have video. I can't wait until he is touring again because I am there!
BUY IT!

Well it does call itself Glorious which pretty nicely sums it up.

The fact that I can go up to students of mine and say 'evil ducks' or 'I'm the Queen, I'll live forever...' thus causing them to crack up goes to show this man's influence.

Too many funny moments to catalogue, but it is, in my opinion, one of the best of his shows. (Two please - one and one OAP)

Eddie looks great and everything clicks on this one. He has you hooked from his opening faux stentorian greeting "Hammersmith Apollo!". "Glorious" is not in the least ironic, it is totally apt. The material is strong, his miming is marvelously fluid, he's in total sync with his audience. His joy and exuberance radiates like the sweetest golden flowing honey. Missed him in Boston last week. Didn't know he was coming until it was too late, and he was sold out. I'm totally gutted, of course. Oh well, these videos will have to do. This one and "Unrepeatable" are the ones to get.

This is without a doubt Eddie Izzard's funniest stand up show on the market. Eddie brings his usual brand of intellectual humour commenting on subjects such as the Old Testament, and God creating the world and the Siege of Troy and his experiences with marital arts, all of it comic gold. I particularly enjoyed his comments on archaeology on TV and if you don't think that can be funny you are wrong. A testament to how go a comic Eddie is, is that he requires no props, where other stand up comics require the use musical instruments or magic tricks to get through a show, Eddie just starts talking and you don't stop laughing. A true Masterpiece, 5 out of 5.

High heels and mind blowing make up don't stop Eddie Izzard from capturing his whole audience. Possibly one of the funniest people alive, he uses the collapsed dome of St Peters Cathedral in Rome as a backdrop and the old and new testaments and revelations (admittedly the shortest version of those stories you will ever hear!)as a guideline, in pulling of an intensive stand up comedy routine.
Not to be missed, especially if you like an educated mind and an eye for detail when it comes to your funny senses!

Definately the funniest video I've ever watched.
From Dogs with deep voices and beards to being covered in bees!, Eddie Izzard covers all the day to day situations we can relate to and more!
If you like to laugh yourself till it hurts this is the video for you.
The mind boggles at how he can simply come up with the material he uses. But one thing's for sure you'll love it.
