Emberly presents engaging pictures formed from simple shapes which your child (or even you) can reproduce using the simple instructions and the stencils which come attached. Younger children may need help following the directions but can make the picture themselves. Older children and adults will get great results.

Bought this for my daughters Christmas (she is almost 4) and we have had lots of fun making pictures from just 3 sizes of circles and squares. Started with a very simple bird and moved on to a train with 5 carriages (didn't have space for all 12). The book is supplied with cardboard templates and stencils, but some are quite small for younger kids to cut out. I bought some gummed paper circles and squares in three different sizes, they don't always fit perfectly but all in all we managed to make it work. We also reused the brown paper used to package amazon deliveries to give us a nice long strip to make our train!
I liked it because it is educational, the pictures are split up into easy to follow steps, so no reading skills required. It also introduces kids to the concept of fractions in a fun way, as the pictures are constructed by cutting the circles in half, quarters, eighths etc. If you do use the templates it is a good opportunity for younger kids to improve their scissor skills. The simpler pictures can be created in 5-10 minutes and best of all there isn't a lot of mess, unless you are going to use glue to stick the pictures down (use a glue stick for less mess). This would be a good craft for parents who don't do crafts as it is really easy.
This would also be a good book for a nursery or school as there are lots of different ideas including, flowers, butterfly and bugs, lots of animals, clowns, letters and numbers. The train and carriages would make a good group or class project, as would the three little pigs and the wolf. Once you get the hang of it kids could start making their own interpretations.

If you're a scrapbooker wondering how to use your circle cutter this is the book for you! There are so many great projects in this book that can easily be adapted to use in scrapbooks...how about the animals for a day at the zoo page, or the train for Christmas or baby pictures? The bugs and flowers are great for spring and summer layouts. You can use the stencils that come with the book, but I like the results I get with the circle cutter better. Great for kids, too. Overall, I love this book and highly recommend it!
