Product Description

Product Description

This title gives up-to-date expert advice on a growing health phenomenon. The incidence of atopic eczema (eczema associated with allergy and often accompanied by asthma) has increased by three-fold in the last twenty years with twenty per cent of children and one in twelve adults in the UK affected by the disorder. The authors offer the latest research in what causes eczema and why there has been such a dramatic increase in the condition over recent years, as well as a comprehensive overview of orthodox and complementary treatment options. They also offer advice on how to better manage eczema in daily life, including social and emotional factors.

A Great Help! 1 Feb 2009
By K. Gadd
This is a brilliant book - I wish I had bought it years ago for my own eczema but only purchased it recently as my son suffers also. The advice in the book is in line with what your GP will tell you but it gives you so much information on creams and steroids making it easier for you to ask/tell your GP what you need. It is also very helpful when faced with 'old wives tales' and 'myths'! I really do think it's a must for anyone unfortunate enough to suffer with eczema.

After reading several books on eczema and reading many websites I think I've found a good one!
There is a lot of information about different types of steroid creams and emollients available in the UK, I've not seen this anywhere else. Lots of great tips on how, when and what type and strength to use. Having all this information has helped me to make better choices and I am going to get a different prescription when I take my baby to the Dr this week.
I took off one star because I wanted some more info on alternative therapies. There is a short chapter on this but it only covers a few and I feel the author is slightly dubious about them.
Overall definitely worth a read: worth buying for the product tables alone.

Ecztremely helpful 11 July 2010
By Helen
This book is extremely helpful for managing eczema. It is directed at people who suffer from eczema at any age. I started following the advice as soon as I read it, including a visit to the GP and asking for the ointment form of the steroid rather than the cream. It gives lots of useful advice eg. how to combine steroid treatment with the moisturisers that are also needed. After applying the steroid leave at least half an hour before applying the moisturiser. If you prefer alternative medicine, it gives information on that too. Altogether an excellent guide. It is no good just trying to treat yourself. Combine a visit to the GP as well as read this book.
