The principal of the " Senseo" is similar to the "espresso-system" which is well know in the hotel and restaurant industry. The coffee pads always contain fine ground cofee, which is mostly longer roasted than regular coffee. make sure you always use fine ground coffee for the best results, preferably "espresso" coffee. Using medium or coarse ground coffee will influence the taste of your coffee.

I've been a Senseo user for 5 or 6 years, and my old unit hasn't been working so well for a while. I've hesitated to replace it because availability of coffee pods is so hit and miss in UK supermarkets, but finally my other half made an executive decision and bought a new one.
So, in a fit of enthusiasm, I ordered up a Coffeduck to go with it, thinking that way I could still use it even if the last of my local stores stopped selling pods. Well as far as I'm concerned, they can stop anytime they like!
The Coffeeduck loaded with with a strong italian filter coffee makes world-class espresso. I can put in my own fresh-ground coffee (wow!), strong blends, mild blends, it's like having a coffee shop in the kitchen, but with all the ease of use of the Senseo still there.
Swilling out the pod for a refresh is a doddle, filling is only a bit more effort than putting in a pod, and it's even more environmentally friendly since there are no paper pods wasted in the process.

I would recommend this to anyone with a senseo machine. It works really well and means that any coffee can be used. The coffee produced seems to come out just as well as with pods and still has the creamy layer. You can also use it as a double pod holder which is very useful.
