The time of “Economy Class Crow” is set in the past, Sydney at the start of 1992. It was a leap year and it began on a Wednesday. Johnny Green was lonely but never alone, which is why it was the start of a new phase for him. He felt like some steady female company, and so was not going to breeze thru town as he usually did. He had come to a decision. Gone was the last six years of drifting twice the length and breadth of Australia, back packing with guitar and amp, living in a tent. That story was done. The jolly swagman with the Yankee twang was checking into a hotel room in Pitt Street Sydney with the intention of sticking around for a year, just to see what happened. In reflection, what happened in that one year was like standing at a crossroad before finally choosing a way and sticking to it. Things happened for Johnny in Sydney in nineteen ninety two, and by the following year he was living the rest of his life – that is, marginalised by a thousand western pre-occupations. Adjusting his life rather than living it. But that, my friend’s is another story.
