Book Description

8 Aug 1997 0135699711 978-0135699713 1

For junior/senior-level courses in Urban Economics and Regional Economics and graduate-level courses Urban and Regional Planning and public policy.

Designed to convey the excitement of studying cities while developing a set of formal tools for analyzing their economies. Attempts to remove the division between “urban” economics and “regional” economics by demonstrating that the traditional intermetropolitan models of specialization and trade can also be extended to intrametropolitan analysis, thus unifying their treatment.

Sure the book is old and rather irrelevant, but such is the nature of textbooks. The reason I rated this book so low is because it does nothing to teach the math behind economics. While other econ textbooks clearly walk through the steps to solve equations, graphs, and formulas, this one simply lists numbers and assumes you will learn how to calculate. I spent more time trying to understand where numbers came from than actually understanding the theories.

If you have to buy this book for a class I hope the professor is good, because this book is downright pitiful scholarship.
