Product Description

Product Description

This introductory general ecology text features a strong emphasis on helping students grasp the main concepts of ecology while keeping the presentation more applied than theoretical. An evolutionary perspective forms the foundation of the entire discussion. The book begins with the natural history of the planet, considers portions of the whole in the middle chapters, and ends with another perspective of the entire planet in the concluding chapter. Its unique organization of focusing only on several key concepts in each chapter sets it apart from the competition.

From the Publisher

Unique art program that uses captions within the illustration to explain the process. The key information is integral to the concept, rather than contained in a standard figure legend.

Numerous Learning aids such as chapter concepts, evidence (research results) sections, applications and tools sections, chapter summary, review questions, list of readings, references.
True "Concepts" orientation with each chapter being built around one or two key concepts. Includes many examples drawn from the natural history of organisms.
Customize this book to meet your exact needs and mix and match with other items on Primis Online allowing maximum choice and flexibility. Choose between two delivery formats: custom printed books (in black and white) or custom eBooks (in color).
Addition of three new chapters to the text (7,8 and 12).
Text and art are completely four-color.
Includes classical studies along with contemporary examples to show the scientific method is valid and that research is still incomplete.

Great for non ecology major students 7 Aug 2000
By Melissa Alvarez - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Molles has outdone himself with this book. It presents the reader a great book for students who are not majoring in ecology and a great way to understand ecology and the different field works done in the area. The tables and organization are great. I speacially like the way the author makes a subject easy to understand and the way the tables and pictures help you to understand. It's a great book.

Great for non-technical study 23 Jan 2002
By C. Racine - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is the first science text I have ever encountered which I enjoy reading. It generally takes the form of a series of stories which the author deftly uses to illustrate ecological concepts. It's not technical enough for a serious ecology student, but I hope that many people read it to gain an appreciation for ecology without encountering some the fanaticism which had previously turned me away from the subject entirely. Thanks.

Excellent for Non-Ecology Majors 5 Dec 2009
By Monica L. Walsh - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
One of the kinder books I have had to read this semester, and I'm a non-ecology major. Does an excellent job of helping the reader understand complex ecological concepts. Maps and digitally enhanced graphs are extremely helpful visual aids. According to the professor the is not different enough from the 4th edition for those who own it to be obligatory to purchase. Otherwise, it is truely enjoyable (as far as textbooks go) and definitely a worthwhile investment.
