As with so many skin conditions, there are many triggers and finding and elimintaing the causes can be tricky. Our toddler son appeared to develop an allergen triggered eczema following a change of washing powder on a holiday to France (having already suffered with sensitive skin) and despite returning to our normal washing powder on our return, it continued to worsen. The doctors prescribed an emolient, which did help calm our son's discomfort but did little to reduce the eczema.

After researching eczema on the internet (and feeling we had eliminated other allergen causes), we came across the Ecoegg. We immediately stopped using washing powder or fabric softener and within 3 weeks, my son's eczema had calmed down signifcantly. Now, 7 months on, it has almost disappeared and the dry skin is under control with the emolient. Use of washing powder (e.g. if he wears something washed at the grandparents) does aggravate his skin, so we now rely on the Ecoegg as a means of control. The Ecoegg is very cost effective vs washing powder and does clean well, so it is an all round win for us!

As with other reviews, if you miss the fragrance associated with fabric softener, then a few drops of an essential oil in the softener drawer works a treat.

If you suffer with Eczema and haven't yet found something that works, then I highly recommend giving the Ecoegg a go.

I have washed about 15 loads with the Ecoegg and I am not that happy with the cleaning on whites. I would love this item to work as I like the idea of saving money, being better for the environment and most importantly better for our skin but have had to resort to washing liquid a couple of times for some whites that needed an extra good clean. I will carry on using it for most of my washing and then use stronger stuff as and when. Some have mentioned the lack of fragrance (I didn't get an egg with fragrance added) I must admit I missed that so I just add a couple of drops of aromatherapy oil to the softener drawer and this works really well but not sure if this is good for the plastic in the drawer so keeping a close eye on that.

Being a scientist who knows about detergents and enzymes, I was quite cynical trying this out. Good detergents like those recommended by Which Magazine were in my hands sometimes disappointing in removing hot day armpit smells from our garments. Trying the egg out it did removed these smells. I still use a conditioner to produce a better freshness. After 10-12 washes all garments have come out looking good. Long term worries, what does this product do to prevent scale on the heating element? What does it long term do on the quality of the whites. Another issue might be the removal of fatty stains (chocolate) something detergents are really good at.The washing machine itself looks less slimy on the insides of the rubber seal after using the egg. I suspect these slimy deposits are caused by enzymes and phosphates in normal detergents. Maybe I will wash alternate washes between the egg and detergents to get the best of both worlds no scale and no sliminess. Recommend the egg!

I bought this product for my mum, but tried it myself first. I was amazed with it, but when it came to kids' laundry it didn't clean as a detergent, still needed to add a stain remover or to rewash some items again for a better result.

Great saving for my mum, she liked it. I think I'll buy it for myself too, with a stain remover though.

Great at the start and my clothes smelled lovely even though it was the fragrance free egg. Now things don't seem to be coming out of the wash clean. I use cloth nappies and they still smell when they've been washed and my clothes don't feel clean.

I'm back on washing powder now. A waste of a tenner.

I have not been very impressed with the Ecoegg, it doesn't remove small stains from tea towels and it does not get rid of perspiration odour. I have used another type of wash ball which worked much better.
The Ecoegg does not work very well at low heat and it is not recommended above 60C.

I really only tried it because of Kim Woodburn promoting it so I basically fell for the hype.

It seems to do the job well and in time should save on detergent costs. It is easy to use and good value.
