Product Description

Product Description

The 20 inch Viking Eco Stepper electric bike features a folding lightweight alloy frame design, alloy rims and stainless steel spokes, with a low step through, to aid the rider mounting and dismounting. It gives you the opportunity to get fitter without too much exertion. It also can save you on fuel and parking costs. The Eco Stepper is an electric bicycle with 3 levels of assist, so you can choose how strenuous you want your ride to be. The comfort seat and grips give it a plush feel to make even longer journeys comfortable. The Steppers drive chain is provided by Shimano and adjusted with a 6- speed Revo shift changer. As insurance that the Eco Stepper stops as well as it goes, even in wet conditions, a powerful 'V" brake up front is supported by a low maintenance roller brake at the rear. A state of the art lithium battery, that is easy to remove for recharging purposes, powers the cycle for up to 30 miles on one 4-6 hour charge. If you're a commuter you can pop the 21 kg folded bike into your vehicle boot, park out of town, cycle to work and avoid parking, congestion and fuel charges.

My wife bought this after I sold my Viking Eco Bike. Very similar to each other but once again not very nice for folding up. there are no clips to hold it together like the Brompton for instance and trying to carry it is a real pile of trouble. For a folding bike it's very heavy even without the battery off. The good thing about this bike is that it's battery lasts a long while and is easy to fit and use with the speed control on the handlebar. It's great to cycle with the battery on but using it without the battery is a bit hard at times. Going uphill using the battery is a charm in itself. At about 15 mph top speed it's really great to ride. Again beware of the weight and folding, such a shame the makers can't figure a way to hold this together when needed to move from A to B. For the price it's about worth it but if your an older person and not too fit then go for another model or get advice.

I am a walker, not a cyclist. The last bike I had cost £14 brand new and I got it as a present for passing my 11 plus! I live in Derbyshire which would be brilliant for cycling if it wasn't for these damn hills! So I have been interested in these power assisted thingies for some time in the hope that I would not have a heart attack as I tried to get to the top of the next hill. I have been scanning the net for a bargain for ages. This Eco Stepper is such a bargain! I have just given it a good try out on one of the local railway trails and it had more admiring glances than the latest Jag! It overtook people much younger and lighter than myself and I finished the 26 mile cycle without a puncture! However it only did about 10 miles before the battery ran out. This was not a problem on this occasion cos disused railway lines tend to be rather flat and I made it back without electricity. My wife also bought one and I have to say her battery was still half full on her return. There is a slight weight difference between the two of us....about 8 stone so I guess my bike was working a little bit harder than hers!
The bike was easy to assemble, but it takes two hours or more, not minutes. It comes well equipped with tools, lights and even a little bell.
All in all, although it is early days yet I would recommend this item, unless you are thinking of doing the Tour De France. Come to think of it the Tour would be a lot easier with battery power so don't rule it out!

I had to send back the first bike sent as the hinge for folding it out was misaligned and wouldn't lock in place. That said, Amazon's returns procedure was efficient - even if Yodel's actual pick up was poorly co-ordinated with the courier arriving without my phone number despite me telling them he'd need it as the entry buzzer wasn't working.

Anyway, moan over. The second bike is excellent. It came nearly fully assembled out the box and, after charging the battery, I was immediately riding around. It's heavy but that's to be expected of this kind of bike. To get the 15mph you need to use the top power setting, with some crazy peddling on top I've taken it to 18mph. It's hard to contribute any further due to the gearing. Probably done on purpose. In top power it goes about 13-15 miles with a couple of small hills thrown in. I'm sure it can do 25 miles in the low power setting but, frankly, once you've experienced the top power you won't want to pootle along.

I use the bike to commute 4 miles each way from work. I needed electric assistance on doctors advice and this goes easily as fast I used to manage on a full size manual bike. For the money, a winner.

The item was delivered very quickly, in fact ,earlier than expected. First impressions are very good. for the price you get a wellmade ebike with three assistance settings, easy to use and understand and very easy to assemble.Within a minute of taking it out of the car boot I was riding. Top gear is quite low but does enable the statutary max speed of 15mph to be maintained quite easily. The pedal position, further back than on a normal bike,is strange at first but I soon got used to it. Easy to fit into the car boot and the weight can be easily reduced by simple removal of the battery pack. For anyone wanting an ebike for commuting or leasure purposes this is good value for money and would suit the purpose very well. The only drawback is finding a pannier support carrier that will fit under the battery pack and be suitable for 20" wheels.

My experiences/impressions after one months riding, having not ridden a bike seriously for 10+ years and not exercised regularly for some time. I have been commuting to work, about 15 miles there and back, on and off over this period.(Weather and legs permitting)

Pro's

Was delivered in good working order. The rear light holder was slightly bent and one of the light attachments was broken but nothing major.

I have cycled 27 miles on low power on a single charge with battery power to spare. The electrics have survived flood and rain without any problems so far. As stated the battery generally takes about 2-3 hours to fully recharge after a normal commuting day.

It is what it is. This is not a fast bike. It's not meant to be. The gear ratio for top gear seems quite low. Don't expect to be able to pedal faster than the top powered speed of 15mph. Average speed is probably about 10mph on the flat on low PAS.

There are some trails on my route to work which don't cause too much of a problem. Ride can be a bit bumpy. I will probably get some schwalbe big apple tyres and see if this helps.

Con's

Yes it folds but not very tidily. Finding the optimum folded position for pedals is tricky (see below)

The mudguards seem totally useless especially the rear one. The bottom of my rucksack/seat rack/trousers/underside of battery are caked in mud after a few journeys on wet days through the park. Also the screws on the rear mudguard are not up to the job. I lost one after 1st ride even though they were both initially tight. The mudguard attachments seem a little flimsy.

After 2 weeks one of the pedals fell off on a journey to work.
