Product Description

Book Description

A masterful, moving collection of poetry - and the first published work by this much-loved, highly respected writer who, sadly, passed away aged just fifty-two in January 2008.

Product Description

In this powerful, evocative collection, master storyteller John O'Donohue explores themes of love and loss, beginnings and endings. Inspired by the ancient wisdom of the Celtic tradition and the rugged, majestic landscape of his birth, the west of Ireland, here he also creates a unique vision of a place and time, and the echo of a memory that will never fade.

A master of poetry 16 Nov 2009
Format:Hardcover
It is hard to find the words to comment upon a book by a man whose use of language is unparalleled. I can hear John's voice as I read these poems, the pauses happen naturally and deepen my grasp of the poems' intent. John's ability to create beauty on the page - with few carefully, thoughtfully chosen words - shines through on every page. His zest for life and his questions about the next one are woven in a beautiful veil-like tapestry. For anyone with John O'Donohue's other writings, this should be added to your collection; for anyone unfamiliar with his writing, this is a treat of language and insight.

Punished by Rewards and Unconditional Parenting
By Alfie Kohn

These two books present a truly wonderful and usable view of children and in my view would be of fundamental benefit to everyone who is relating with children in any situation - as parent, aunt or uncle, teacher etc.

John O'Donoghues book of Poetry contains a poem called Beannacht (Blessing)for Josie (his mother). It is worth buying the book for that poem alone in my view. It does however contain several more poems that give us a glimpse into his interesting and at times delightful slant on life.

Fine poetry 20 May 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Father John O Donohue is a fine, gifted poet. He is a much better poet than prose writer, in my opinion. So if a person does not enjoy his prose works, they may still enjoy his poetry a great deal. Although he is a priest, his poetry is not explicitly religious. Belief in the afterlife is a strong theme in the poems he writes about death. He gives us beautiful and thought-provoking images, which are simple and based on everyday experience. This makes them easy to visualize and contemplate. Aside from the odd spelling of *anam-cara* (sic) in the dedication, the little bit of Irish Gaelic in this book seems to be spared the problems with typographical errors found in his popular books *Anamchara* and *Eternal Echoes*. I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy fine contemporary poetry.

Echoes Of Memory by John O'Donohue 18 Jan 2011
By J. Colleen Wilson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
For those of you who are already familiar with O'Donohue's past works, this book is a must have. It is a most beautiful collection of his poetry, which I found to be easily comprehended and delicately written. O'Donohue shares another wonderful flair for telling story, with just a few words. The reader is easily able to connect with each story told.Through ' Echoes Of Memory '
O'Donohue explores themes of love and loss, beginnings and endings.......places we have all explored. Always, there is that touch towards the Divine, for inspiration.
A very enjoyable read :+)
