Here we have another entertaining double bill of Butchers B-movies, both with an espionage theme.
The first "Echo Of Diana" stars Australian actress Betty McDowall as Joan Scott, who following the news of her husband's death in an air crash in Eastern Europe, becomes puzzled and upset on reading an "In Memoriam" notice in a newspaper, which is mysteriously signed "Diana".
Upon being informed of the notice, Journalist Pam Jennings (played by Clare Owen) now sets about investigating the mysterious message, the investigations uncover a web of mystery which poses one burning question: What really happened to the woman's husband?

The second movie "Shadow Of Fear" stars American actor Paul Maxwell in the lead role, here he plays Bill Martin, who while in the Middle East is passed a message by a secret agent.
On his return home he is met at the airport by two men posing as police officers, having delivered the message he soon realises his mistake, and is eventually introduced to the real contact, as the message contained vital information, Bill agrees to use himself as a decoy. The movie features another appearance from Clare Owen as Barbara, the girlfriend of Bill Martin.

Each movie runs for 1 hour approx, and both were made in 1963. Both movies have been remastered, and the black and white picture and sound quality are good. No extras or subtitles. The included 14-page booklet includes adverts for other Renown releases, and "The Old Firm" - a brief history of Butchers film studios.

For fans of British B-movies of the 50's/60's, this double bill is well worth a look.

I agree with the 2 other reviews (as at writing this 30 Apr 11). One of the better Double bills from a perhaps inconsistent group of releses from Renown. Shadow of Fear is for me by far the best. Good location work (where was it filmed?), but both are worth a watch. Good picture and sound quality for both and the usual good little booklet. Prices still too high, but on Amazon it's much better value. A short review, but others say it better. Recomended to all "B" picture lovers (and a few others).

Director Ernest Morris may not be a household name but back in the days when cinemas showed an a and a B film he was one of the most prolific of B film directors. The films often 60 minutes were always packed with car chases and romance, exotic locations or places trying to look that way. Here we have 2 films made in 1963 the first at MGM Boreham Wood and the second at the much smaller Brighton Film studios. The music on both is by Martin Slavin a regular with Butchers films.
Many familiar faces are here and both films move with pace filling there running time very quickly. The picture quality is good as is the sound. The packaging looks good and the inclusion of the History of Butchers films makes an interesting read. Price wise very good value.

I have sentimental reasons for loving Echo of Diana as my husband was in it so it's a treasured DVD.
